Many of you have been giving useful inputs regularly to drive positive change in the way India functions as well as making things easier and better for citizens and businesses. Below are some of the key initiatives undertaken by LocalCircles via different circles. Some of them have seen solid progress while some others are yet to see closure.
1) CCTV recording in courts - Supreme Court has ordered for a pilot in the Gurgaon district court followed by 1 district court in every state.
2) School Fee Hike Regulation and Disclosure - CBSE has made 80% plus schools disclose fee structure on website and several states are looking at bringing a regulation. However, a direct solution is yet to be implemented.
3) MRP disclosure on eCommerce sites: Dept of Consumer Affairs has issued the draft Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodity Rules) and the rule is likely to go into effect July 1, 2017 where eCommerce sites will have to disclose mrp tag image or details.
4) Disclosure of Expiry Date on Packaged Food Products sold on eCommerce: FSSAI, India's food regulator has agreed publicly to include this request in its rules such that sellers will be able to know expiry date of a packaged food item on eCommerce site before ordering.
5) MRP on Medical Devices: NPPA, India's Pharmaceutical Regulator has issued an order so all citizen use medical devices like stents are to have a MRP.
6) Making Life Saving Drugs Affordable: After multiple LocalCircles polls, Govt of India has taken multiple steps to reduce duties and taxes on life saving drugs including price of stents as well as opening of Govt stores for generic medicines. More steps are needed in this area on patented drugs.
7) Service Charge at Restaurants: Dept of Consumer Affairs has issued multiple guidelines in 2017 to define that Service Charge is optional and cannot be forced upon consumer. All restaurants are yet to implement this guideline.
8) Enforcement of SC Ban on Chewable Tobacco or Gutkha: While the supreme court has issued the order, Gutkha is still available easily across India and focused action is needed on closing manufacturing, distribution and sale of Gutkha in India.
9) Reducing VIP Culture: In 2014, the LocalCircles report was the first one through which citizens collectively demanded reduction of VIP culture including removal of beacons. While beacons have been removed, many other steps are yet to be taken to reduce VIP culture in India.
There are several other causes like Making Private Healthcare affordable and accountable, Privacy Law, Making Social Media Safer, etc that LocalCircles is actively working on.

Beacons are not the only aspect of VIP culture. A minor politician of Tamil Nadu who did not win a single seat in the state has 24 hour security given by police department. He is NOT under any threat (except from his own irate followers). Why does he need security at MY expense? What about misbehavior of elected representatives? I do not think the rouge MP who slapped an airline employee ever got punished. In USA even a judge can be arrested if he commits a misdemeanor. Here even junior lawyers think that they are above law, leave alone the so-called law-makers. Has the parliament canteen done away with subsidies to our elected representatives who manage to get richer by the hour when millions go to bed hungry? Why do our elected representatives deserve life time pension when many of them run their own dubious or criminal shenanigans? And the increases come to them with no discussion; only they do not like to give increases to others. Why don't they pass a law telling that the minimum wages will be tied to inflation or that the IT limits will be automatically revised every year to account for inflation? Unless the MPs, MLAs ans ministers send their children to government schools,\ or get treated in government hospitals (instead of flying abroad for minor ailments at MY expense), they will never know what the common man has to go through. And the VIP culture will continue, beacons or no beacons. more

very useful initiatives .....my suggestion on closure of these are 1. to have timelines to each one of them 2. seek support from local state authorities for enforcing it 3. form local groups who would engage on implementation of few points as on voluntary base with support of local authorities For e.g in case of CBSE school fees related matter, if one person by CBSE is nominated as their representative for each and every CBSE school of each state to ensure not just this but other key matters being implemented as per process then we WOULD see some wonderful results ..I feel we as local circle members can also engage in putting things right as per law as we too are facing similar challenges ...these nominees could be trained ...in fact people from the education sectors or educators could be invited to join the CBSE team more
