Why GOI shouldn't support ecommerce startups

Here is why:

Ordered a product on Snapdeal

MRP printed on product = 1325
VAT invoice from seller to comsumer says value of goods = 895
Product invoice from seller through snapdeal says value of goods = 780
Actual money charged by snapdeal = 499

These sites are literally giving away VCs money to kill small retailer.

They are flouting commerce ministry norms about deep discounting

Plus dont know what all tax and accounting hacks are being used.

Should India have such a start up India. Risk is good startups will suffer due to these big names going bust more

Guys - i also like low prices. What people like achintya dont understand is that is just in case flipkart and snapdeal go bust for inability to raise money the entire Indian startup ecosystem will suffer. And the problem is u would have killed the small trader in process, then the real beenficiaries will be biyani and goenkas tesco and walmart. Think with a clear head. more

Let us not make this forum a political forum. We may have different views on political figures including PM. He may not be perfect PM but he is much better then what we have had in the past. So lets get over our usual habit of pulling people down. This PM has got India rolling on the International front in a positive way, he is the one who has had the courage to act against Pakistan with an iron fist- lets give him his due. Saying that, back to the core issue - raised by Sudesh Rai, i am in agreement that these ecommerce companies are using the VC funds to UNDER CUT and under the garb of customer acquisition. The fact remains the customer is acquired as long as he gets a SUPER DEAL. Not beyond that- rest is only his email and phone no as part of the database with the ecommerce company. This certainly is not a standard professional business practice and are only bubbles that are dying their own death - as long as the VC funds last. God Bless ! more
