Water Borne Diseases in Delhi

Friends, this is first monsoon for our family in Delhi. Both my kids are school going and active in sports. Have heard stories about people falling sick in July/August due to typhoid, dengue and other similar fevers. Obviously we ensure we are only consuming bottled water. Are there other things to watch out for? more

Dear Shikha, Thank you very much for finding the DENGUE precautions uploaded by me HELPFUL. I appreciate your remarks. Best Regards. Raja Chandra. more
I must say this is very useful. As NRIs living in India,I and my family have low immunity and precautions like these are the only we can prevent ourselves from falling sick. more
Don't take uncovered cut fruits and juices made in market specially sugarcane juices. Avoid frozen meat and other products. Whenever out, choose only cooked items fried, steamed basically cooked overall. Never eat curd or cut salads and fruits. At home also don't leave anything uncovered specially milk after boiling. more
Other than water, food intake also has to be looked at. Eating out esply. from road side vendors or eating cut fruits and salads should be avoided outside the house. Washing hand before eating is a must always, more so in this season. Drinking sugarcane juice should also be avoided. more
DENGUE Dengue is caused by small, black-and-white, highly domesticated tropical mosquito that prefers to lay its eggs in artificial containers commonly found in and around homes, for example, flower vases, old automobile tires, buckets that collect rainwater, and trash in general. Containers used for water storage, such as drums, cement cisterns, and even septic tanks, are important in producing large numbers of adult mosquitoes in close proximity to human dwellings. Empty out the Coolers. The adult mosquitoes prefer to rest indoors, are unobtrusive, and prefer to feed on humans during daylight hours. There are two peaks of biting activity, early morning for 2 to 3 h after daybreak and in the afternoon for several hours before dark. However, these mosquitoes will feed all day indoors and on overcast days. Try and cover Arms and Legs. Get Good Night Electric Bootle from a Chemist. Lasts about 2 weeks. Keep your Back lane clean. Do not allow stagnant water. If you suspect Dengue get your test done by the Religare people. Your Blood Platelets value goes down drastically. Below 50,000 will need Hospitalization. It should not be ignored. TYPHOID Typhoid Typhoid is caused by bacteria called Salmonella typhi. These bacteria exist in the in dirty places. The spread of these bacteria aided by insect-bacteria-carrying insects such as flies or other insects. These bacteria can exist in food or drink and will go into the body of people who consume them. That causes a person to get typhoid fever. Typhoid is a water borne disease. Must take precaution not to eat outside. Eat only properly cooked food. Avoid eating Curd and cold food outside. School Going Children should carry water bottle from home. Should be told not to eat outside When you suspect get a Blood / Stool test. Its known as Widal test more
