Waiting list and cancellation charges.
on overage single railway trip from source to destination, railway sells 1000 confirmed tickets . out of this 200 tickets may be cancelled.so the clerical charges collected for this is Rs.24000. also for the same trip 200 wait listed tickets may also be cancelled. so the clerical charges deducted is Rs.12000. so for a single trip rs.36000, is collected as cancellation charges only. also it sold 1000 tickets and if the average ticket charges is Rs.400, then for 1000 ticket , then a total of Rs.436000, is collected for a single trip. is not enough for a profitable run of railways.

Hahaha! Think this way, the booking clerk's working hours is eight. So whether it is booking or cancellation he is paid for. Now think about the stationary it also costs money. Coming to accounting costs a separate audit and accounting expenses are incurred. So all in all the amount what's deducted is meagre. In Zen there is a saying don't just judge someone, walk in their shoes for some time and then come to a conclusion.

Great thought , Yes Indian railways is looting in that way in the name of clerical charges . Honorable railway minister Mr.Suresh prabhakar prabhu, can we find a solution for this

Yes ,it is unfair to collect clerkage charges by railways. They got the money for tickets well in advance for 120 days and also enjoy the interest on huge advance money,still looking to charge from passengers in the form of clerkage.

Yes I agree. It is not advisable to collect clerical charges on waitlisted cancellation .
