Unreserved are the Neglected Lot in Railways
Despite increase in the number of trains over the last 5 years as also increase in the speed of train, the Unreserved or General Bogies as one may call it remains constant 2 or 3 Maximum in all long distance Mail/Express Trains. Due to non confirmation of my pre-booked ticket, I had to ride in General and with Peak Holi travellers, the general bogey was packed in 12477: Mata Vaishnodevi(Sarvodaya) Express which departed from Ahmedabad Jn.at 11:30 A.M. Riding in either of the 2 general bogies had its own inconveniences....the vendors due to position of bogey either at very start or very end had to give it a miss or secondary treatment. My Question is does the Railways feel that these class of poor travelers (many well to do families also have to undertake journeys at short notice giving reservations a miss). In such general rides even going for a bathroom visit is an ordeal as you need to have full physical strength to go up and down and like spiderman or superman even taking aerial route as there would be people sleeping, sitting and standing in aisle. When will Railways get wisdom to cater for General Class travelers who are otherwise the Vote Bank of political class?
If Gemeral compartment is increased then reserved compartments will be reduced. To address the problem Anthodhaya expresses are introduced with all unreserved compartments fully unreserved train

There were no changes in the condition of the general class (2nd class as railways claims) coaches for decades though there had been large number of trains introduced on every route and the length of most the trains was increased up to 26 coaches from earlier 16-18 but the number of this class coaches remained static. Since the fare in this class is the lowest one, probably the Indian railways feels of having the right of cattle like transportation of those travelling in these coaches. India is shining !

Long distance trains are basically for long distance passengers . For short journeys Passenger Trains . There are resource constraints which come in the way of doing more for unreserved passengers on long distance trains .

Remember we have limited resources. Main problem is the increasing population which has led the migration/travel of people from one place to another within india and train is the most common travel mode and approachable to almost all hence the problem will remain same even Railway increase the general bogies. Government must implement population control policy through out india as soon as possible.

I agree with S/Shri Ravindran Nambiar and Vadakkuppattu Ramanathan. Look at the pathetic situation in which a reservation ticket holder is traveling. He has paid through his nose full reservation charges but is actually traveling in unreserved compartment.Railways authority may claim ignorance but why dont they seek information through mobile APP or EMS? Railways are not fulfilling their obligations towards Reserved ticket holders and need to be punished by flying squad authorised by a central squad not related to that sector-al Railways or Division. The condition of unreserved bogies is also very pathetic. The difference is passengers had chosen or circumstances forced them to travel by such means. It is necessary to certainly alleviate the suffering traveling community but the point is who pays for it. I think increasing a flat 10 Paise per KM. in passenger fare of all classes will generate enough revenue for railways to double number of unreserved compartments, ensure TTE in Reserved compartments to enforce Railway Rules and increase Railway Network. However people MUST accept the principle that somebody has to pay for facility that is provided and normally the beneficiary MUST bear the lions share of such burden. Attempting to get anything free is a sign of dependence - slavery and seeking mercy which a self respecting India must avoid. RYK
