TRUTH ABOUT NAIL POLISH

The Indian nail polish market stood at Rs. 636 crores in 2018 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of over 10%, to reach Rs. 1,075 crores by 2024. While the nail polish market is expanding, penetrating deep into remote rural areas on the one hand and evolving Nail-Art clinics in cosmopolitan cities on the other hand, do you have some idea about what goes into the making of nail polish? Can you imagine, your small bottle of nail-polish has ingredients like resin, solvent, dispersants, Plasticizers, Dyes and pigments, Micas etc. The so-called toxic trio of nail polish consists of dibutyl phthalate (a plasticizer), toluene (to evenly suspend colour), and formaldehyde (a known carcinogen) that is used as a hardening agent!
A study reveals that majority of respondents (89%) do not read the ingredients before buying nail products. Most of the respondents (77-87%) have no idea about the presence of harmful chemicals like colophonium, Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) etc in nail polish. 65% do not know that toxic chemicals can enter our body through tiny holes in skin or by inhaling or even through nails.

My dear departed mother also used nail polish and when she removed the paint to put on a new coat of polish I noticed her finger nails had turned yellow. So she used to keep her nails unpolished for some days. Seeing this I refused to use nail polish to this day and use very little make up too. Pure Aloe which I personally grow, I use for my face and use only natural products like haldi, besan and lime. more
Well Beauty comes at a Price. When a woman cries, each drop of tear could have Rs.350/- Mascara, Rs.500/- Rouge, Rs.800/- face pack and many other ingredients. I came upon a story of a Collector of Jharkhand who became a Mayor of a town and was called at an Educational Institute to give a speech. Some students asked her why she did not use any cosmetics. With tears in her eyes, the Mayor Lady gave a testimony. She was the third child and her parents were miners in silica mines in Jharkhand. Due to poverty both parents worked and when mother became ill, the children were pushed. Silica fumes would destroy the body...lungs and other organs. Have seen and experienced it and knowing that the silica from the mines goes into making of the Beauty Cream, that lady took a vow never to use cosmetics. Focus and dedication got her the mayors post not the beauty cream. more
In fact, a large number of cosmetics have harmful ingredients more
Lipsticks may also be similarly harmful. Can anybody share knowledge of ingredients of lipstick and their harmful effects ? more
Frankly i also did not know it.. more
