True Clean warriors for Swachh Bharat Campaign - Rag Pickers

Its touching to see that most rag pickers who come collecting garbage from our homes every morning our minors. Because of them we have clean homes.

These kids instead of going to schools, segregate the garbage with their hands, no gloves no masks.
Their hands are all bruised and have cuts all over.

It's pity that seeing them we don't get moved at all.

If we can't give them a better world, least give them gloves and segregate our waste before handing it to them. Thats the first thing that we should do if we really care about Swachh Bharat. more

The only idea I have now is to write to the government to 1) set up recycling plants 2) hire the current "rag pickers" and train them, give them safety gears, decent salaries, housing, etc. 3) start schools for their children. Recycling plants for every city in every state. PET, Batteries, electronic equipment, glass, tin cans, scrap metals, all those exist in smaller scale managed by small private industries, often with no control. Usually I get no replies from the government, maybe my letters end up in the garbage too. But who knows this time it may reach someone who wants to change. I am willing to help teach the children, already working on the teaching materials. I am sure some others have better ideas and are already working with these kids. Thanks for writing. I am a hypocrite, sir. I fly high in the sky and think that donating a few dollars here and there is actually helping these kids. But after my father passed away and some 700 slum dwellers poured into our gated community neighborhood and cried for the whole day, I realized that I have to follow his footsteps if I want even one sincere person to attend my funeral without expecting a pay or a good meal. Yes, those people were not hired and no one knew why they came. He quietly served those who needed the most, no picture in the newspaper or TV, no bragging, not even to his own family. I have to do the same. more
