Consumer Grievances forum of Jago Grahak was working fine till a year back with good responses. Now it is a toothless tiger. Whether you complain about cellular companies or restaurants, travel companies or cable operators. No actions are taken nor any rules made to protect consumers. All myst have experienced that when you apply for disconnection for cellular services no confirmation is given in writing. They keep your number ON and then you continue to get bills. Cable operators have different packs and you end up paying more than what was before. The Telecom ministry seems to be behind protecting these operators. As far as regulations are concerned, the connection has to be disconnected within 7 days of receipt of the disconnection request and thereafter no bill is to be paid provided the connection is not being used. The question of acknowledgement can be tackled either sending disconnection request by SMS or by email. While disconnecting the services, the final bill is to be adjusted against security deposits. The balance of security deposits after adjusting with the final bill amount need to be refunded within 60 days failing which the interest is payable at the rate of 10% per annum for the delayed period. more
Govt. should start something like Ombudsman as in Insurance and Banking services to whom we can approach for arbitration. I have written to Jago grahak once on an issue with Make my trip enclosing full details and response from company. Jago Grahak has forwarded my complaint to the company and redirected their reply to me back !!! If it is to be like that why to have complaint cell ?? High time govt should think of Ombudsman for these complaints as well. more
Indian bureaucrats and companies are paper tigers. If one wants to do anything, there is a rule existing. Twist this rule to your convenience and get the desired result. This is true for any transaction, be it governmental or otherwise. In the whole process, we forget the purpose of a rule. I recently filed a consumer complaint at a consumer redressal forum. For quite some time, the plaint was not accepted. After a great struggle, it was accepted. But when it came to proceeding with the case at the forum, the concerned president ruled that the format was not correct. It is now more than one year that the format needs to be corrected as desired by the president. Whereas the site of Consumer Redressal Forum says that a simple letter is enough to file a complaint. Further, you would not require a lawyer. This again is not correct. Jai Ho. more
