TAX on Leave encashment

The leave encashment at the time of retirement is fully exemted from income tax for Govt employees, where as exemtion is limited to Rs 3 lakhs for other employees. Why this discrimination among Govt employees and other employees.
Retired employees should get equal treatment whether they are Govt or Non Govt more

Government after governments are always targeting salaried people because they are the easiest to target. Absoultely unfair Mr. Jaitley. Why does government and Finance minister always tax the soft target of employees? They need to think about some out of the box solution for non-salaried persons rather than salaried ones. As an example why not tax businessman when they travel on tourist visa for international destination. They can easily afford it as well. In fact the LTA should be made tax free or standard deduction should be introduced with a reasonable good limit and linked to inflation. LTA too must be linked to inflation. Else all exemptions should be removed except the housing loan interest, and the lowest slab of IT should be raised to 5 Lakh per year and all the slabs linked to inflation rate. more

The Income Tax Dept should be pragmatic, fair and large hearted. There should not be any taxation for leave encashment either for Govt Employees or for Private Company Employees. There is no justification to do so. more
