Swachh Bharat - Need more accountability, clarity

A few months back, I was visiting Khajuraho, the world heritage. The place, carvings are simply beautiful and very well maintained. Could see tourists in big numbers from our country and other nations as well. However the toilets in the Khajuraho premises were very dirty and stinking.
Looking at the large number of tourists, the number of toilets was inadequate and were in very poor condition. So while we talk of Swachh Bharat mission at all levels of national and local leadership, how come authorities at Khajuraho are ignorant about it ? What is their accountability ? Is this the issue of ignorance, inadequate resources or indifference at a place which is of national pride. We find this happening in our locality and everywhere. What is the solution ? more

(5) The staff shall be made responsible for properly maintaining the entire Sanitation System. (6) Proper exhaust system need to be provided for removal of foul smells. (7) Timing for cleaning the Toilets after every two hours along with the flooring is to be mentioned and divided into two parts so that one part is always available to use. (8) After cleaning the entire area of Toilet shall be dried for further use. (9) A well maintained garden around the Toilet area shall be developed. more
Technological interventions in terms of tracking sweepers, and establishing a central command centre and helplines for instant feedback will better the situation.. Central Government / Ministry of Tourism and Culture can take initiative in coordination with States more
Water is key to Swachhata. Water management is poor and least priority of the Government. more
Local Circle had long back taken up the study of issues and solutions for HERITAGE sites. Cleanliness should have been priority no 1., followed by clean toilets, safe drinking water, Resting places, well maintained pedestrian paths, maintaining greenery etc. There should be defined responsibility, accountability and a dedicated Tourist Officer for each site. local Circle must take up such reports to highest level for action. more
