Surge Pricing on advance booking Unfair Trade Practice

Ruled the consumer court and 30000 fine on Uber. I suggest if they charge surge on advance booking we should all file such a case and consumer affairs should file a class suit - ask uber for all data where surge was charged on advance booking and then Uber to pay each one 30000.

Disposing of the complaint filed by Raman Kumar Soni, a resident of Phase 3B2, Mohali, the forum said: “The practice of charging excess fare than that of actual contracted fare at the time of advance booking, is unfair trade practice, which needs be deprecated.”

When Uber claimed it had already refunded around Rs 84, the forum ruled that it amounted to the firm’s admittance to having charged extra and said: “To keep a check on such unruly service providers, who commit breach of assurances, promises and commitments at the nick of time, they are required to be dealt with a heavy hand.

Hi Nikita, If you don't like the prices then don't book, Uber is not forcing you, please don't try to hurt the service they provide with such petitions. We need to change our laws and allow the companies to operate freely as long as they don't coercing others. Manas On Sun, Aug 25, 2019, 6:09 PM Nikita Goyal wrote: > more
You mean they can charge anything they wish?

When a booking is done a price for the trip is displayed. And it is not a fixed amount. It is given as a range like 250-350. So we expect to pay a minimum of 250 and a maximum of 350. I book because I am comfortable with this price.

However when I take the trip, it ends up being much more than that.

Recently I booked the cab to airport and the charges were shown as 345-462, which is a wide range to start with. However, for the actual trip ended up paying 929 for the trip. Earlier they had the option of contesting this, but now the app does not allow to contest and the customer care email sends an auto response. So we have no recourse for redress.

Uber is most certainly taking people for a ride (no pun intended).

Time for this unfair practice to stop. more
If advance booking for time fixed travel, which, in case, if peak hours, when most of their fleet are fully engaged, then, these operators surge their rate. These operators can decline saying they don't have vehicle for a fixed time travel, in which case, a patron has to depend on current booking, where these operators can offer rates, which may be prohibitive. These facts are brought to the notice of traffic and transport regulator, but, these departments are mute spectators. Why do we blame these operators. Take example of Auto rickshaws, they are refusing to drive the passengers. This refusal takes place under the nose of a traffic police/ traffic booth and/or in front of group of policemen. This indicates, these policemen, traffic authorities are jointly fooling the public. This is India, and as long as corruption exist, no official will hear general public voice . more
Good step. However, we need to advertise not to give surge price on advance booking at prominent places, so that commuters can check the fare bill accordingly. more
welcome suggestion. one should keep in mind basic principle of Price , it is determined by Demand - Supply condition at a particular time. However , no price could be charged which is unreasonable. Capping of surge price max 25% may be ok. more
