State Tourism in India if organized effectively can be a huge revenue and employment generator. However, due to limited understanding, no bench marking, poor processes, lots of corruption, huge VIP culture on the ground most state tourist spots in India are not in good condition and don't find place in global tourism maps and in many cases even a harassment for tourists.

With this post, we would like to seek your inputs on all the issues with state tourism. Please share as much detail as possible based on your experiences.

Tourists will visit places where good infrastructure is available, while also understanding that that will cost.of course he also requires value for money.Clean and comfortable hotels with good food and well maintained beaches and tourist places are a must. There is great potential for domestic tourism in India, provided the tourist does not feel shortchanged. more
No VIP culture, cleanliness, battery operated public vehicles within 3 kms of tourist places with vehicle parking facility before 3 kms, no private vehicles to be allowed on hill stations (especially religious places love Tirumala, Sabarimala etc.), crowd control with proper queue system wherever needed, knowledgeable and trained guides at reasonable cost, penalty for littering, spitting etc., keep vendors and shopping areas away from the tourist spot, clean restrooms with water availability (paid is fine), stop charging for mobiles in the name of camera, contact person for any issue (available throughout), plenty of open spaces, reasonably priced places for stay (cleanliness and safe) .......... more
Proper maintenance is necessary of such sites, need availability of reasonably priced accommodation of 3Star status, Good and clean food, where one can have a reasonable meal at more
It is VIP culture which is most hated by bhartiya and foreigner. Should not be any VIP darshan more
Stae tourism could not keep pace with Private Resorts. When the Department started various resorts they were good & attracted wuite a large number of tourists, esprcially in Mharashtra resorts at Lonavala, Mahabaleshwar, Tarkarli, Ganpatipule etc places were really good. But they could not compete with with Private resorts because of Government Red Tape plus uninterested employees, corruption and VIP Culture. The only plus point with Govt Resorts was comparatively low cost.. But this advantage was frittered by demotivated employes (They had all the adavantages of being a Govt employee, they were untouched by the profitability of the concerned resort) more
