Corruption in Medical and Engineering Education – Root Causes
1. Medical and engineering are considered to be very respectable professions in India
2. There is a very large number of students who want to pursue medical or engineering as a career every year
3. There are only limited number of seats in medical and engineering colleges in each session
4. Parents don’t mind paying the extra money if their kids get admission in a good college
5. Managements know that their seats are in high demand due to which they start selling them at a huge premium
6. Lack of strict laws which prevent donation for admissions
7. These institutions have been getting away with corrupt practices for years as there is no one to question them
8. Politicians who run these institutions use their clout to indulge in corrupt practices
9. Not too many verifications/licences needed from the Government to open a medical/engineering college
10. There is corruption in the high positions in even bodies like MCI
11. Presence of ‘management quota’ acts as fuel to corruption. more

Only Merit basis admission will help and businessmen should be kept out of education establishments more

only when regulations are made in any way inefficiency and corruption prevails.people believe that a mere qualification will get money , recognition and comfortable living.Hence all rush towards the same.If competition is introduced by making it largely available to all automatically people will choose the efficient ones and the others will drop out in course of time. This happened to engineering education in recent times. Hence the availability of seats to be increased for all and the standard to be increased so that only efficient persons can join in large numbers and the quality and opportunity is given to a large section of efficient persons.persons. Unless this is done it is not possible to employ all the unemployable graduates coming out with poor merits. Funding is never a problem .Quality is important in professionals as people want good service. more

If we have to trace black money, we hv to look at profile of the people getting admitted to the medical courses particularly the PG courses; is it really worth the money? more

In my view,there should not be any management quota;common entrance test and rankings;differential fee structure for private institutions approved by Govt;fees for specialities not under purview of Govt;even quota for Govt discretion should be abolished Govt ,while fixing fees,should keep it in mind that the interest of Investor should be taken care,commensurate with facilities. more
