Simple Ideas to reduce waste generation

Many of us buy plastic products (multiple use) like grocery items, cosmetic, beauty products but end up throwing in garbage because there is no immediate idea of what to do with it.

Govt must bring in a law through environment and consumer ministry where there is a mandatory recycling/reuse section on the product. so on a shampoo, it says, peel off the product labels, use the bottle for (filling up x, y, z), plant a tree etc.

this will lead to more people reusing plastic items than discarding it.

like to seek everyone's ideas. more

Thanks all more
what about commodities in plastic cover only. Every commodity in a supermarket comes in plastic packing. Just enter a supermarket only plastic covering is seen. If this issue is solved I believe there would be great change... more
What is required is a change in people mindset and not more laws. We have minimized the usage of plastic by carrying cloth bags and containers for our needs. I estimate we have negated the need for more than 3000 plastic bags in the last 6-7 years just in our household by doing this. Just imagine what will happen when even 1% of the population start doing this? And whenever we need to use plastic, like for buying pulses, oil and other packaged goods, it is easy to segregate the waste as dry and wet. There are enough mechanisms including raddiwalas who will participate in the recycling process. It is only the commitment at the individual level that is missing. We are just sitting back and waiting for government to do something. And when finally they act, we will complain that it is unfair and government has to do something else to make our lives comfortable. Let us change our attitude first. more
Instead of Law for every human act, suggest that all Municipal Corporations insist on segregation of garbage at Residence and collect the Dry / Wet waste separately. Give incentives for Composting by residents etc. more
People should stop asking vendors/businesses for plastic covers. Carry a small bag when you go for walking or anywhere. When you know that you are going for shopping, carry your bags. When the vendor gives plastic covers/bags/containers, say no. There are vendors who ask as to why we don't want plastic. Explain to them the reasons. Last, but not the least, educate your children on why not to use plastic. more
