Role of Legal Metrology Dept
The Department of Legal Metrology is a regulatory Department. It is responsible for maintaining uniformity and accuracy in all weights and measures, weighing and measuring Instruments used by traders in all hats, markets and trading centres in the State.

Delhi State Metrology Directorate under the Department of Consumer Affairs does not work. Take for example the defective weights and balances used by the hawkers on wheels outside the Chandnichowk/Redfort Metro Station. There the vendors, particularly the when guava season is there, sells at half the weight of the full kg cost. I have myself tried it. Go to any vegetable and kabari markets, one will find illegal and defective weights and measures balances. But the Metrology Directorate does not move, despite the fact that they are in the know of it. more

The States are most sluggish and negligent insofar as application of metrology is concerned. It is based more on political decision than on actual needs. more
