Rising Prices of Fruits and Veggies

Friends,

Arjun here from Lucknow. See attached how prices are rising as festival time is coming.

Please share experience in your town. Are prices rising there too for fruits tomato coriander spinach and other basic items.

Can we debate the need of either broadening definition of essential commodities or need for some serious action by state governments.

Most food control and consumer officials are hand in glove with traders i feel.

How do we overcome this so most things needed in common household sell at reasonable prices?? more

In towns it is felt by all sections that the prices are rising abnormally, but in villages or fruits gardens it is sold at a very low price. The middlemen are taking advantage of the situation and exploiting the sellers and the purchasers. MSP is just for name sake. The government officials are also part of the mismanagement. more
Why should we make hue and cry if the fruits and vegetables are sold at some higher prices during this festive season that too when the rainy season still exists in major part of the country ! We are aware that during rainy season most of the vegetables can't be grown and we have to fully depend on those preserved in cold storages. During winter and post winter the prices of most of the vegetables fall down to such extent that even their procurement from the fields is not not profitable for the farmers. Do we, the consumers, come to their rescue during such crucial times? This is the period when the farmers make up their losses and we should cooperate them. Otherwise they may prefer in producing other cash crops rather than vegetables. Similarly, the prices of fruits depend on their production, which varies from year to year. If there is bumper production in one year, it substantially reduced during the following year and obviously the prices gone up due to wide difference between demand and supply. More over most of the fruits are produced in limited parts of the country to cater the entire nation and obviously the prices are decided depending on the demand and supply as also the high cost of transportation. more
As per demamded by farmers in farmer protest that all MSP be increased which have been accepted by central govt. Prices of all eatable commodities is bound to increase as farmers sitting in protest are still unsatisfied MSP is further going to be increased which will result in further increase in eatble items and this will go on further and further ttill farmers stop asking for MSP increase more
Ever since the covid epidemic only continuous rise of prices are seen.Good rains ,subsidies, free seeds fertilisers ,cash help from.both state and center has made crops in general bountiful.Telengana rice crop is a record high . Other pulses also are in good output per acre ! Fruits and veritable in general have not come down even in the season. The only traders who are making the profits are who are dealing in groceries, fruits, vegetables, medicines. No controls in themarkets! No.GST,No income tax,and the cash flow is phenomenal !where is it going ?rs 2000 notes have disappeared from market . Jewellers and precious stone business is in full swing .corona has not made any dent .visit these shops ,INE can make out the flow of cash. If the prices like petrol.and diesel cannot be brought down , Contro these fast moving consumer goods .commonman is not able to run the use holds .If not Lastly tax agricultural produce so that the country can afford more spending on defence and health and and industry instead if selling PSUs. Once again it is not the Governments job to fix prices. It is only done in a communist country like China. We are mostly free market economy. Also in the cities the prices are higher due to the rise in transportation and labor are higher. more
