Key Tatkal issues reported by Citizens
1. Tatkal seats are sold out in minutes
2. Tatkal ticket prices are very high
3. Many times while booking in Tatkal, the transaction fails but the money gets deducted
4. No refunds on cancellation of tatkal tickets
5. Money is deducted even if a waitlist Tatkal ticket does not get confirmed
6. ‘Site unreachable, try after sometime’ message is flashed many time while trying to book in peak tatkal hours
7. While using internet banking to book tatkal tickets, the transaction fails many times
8. Booking Tatkal tickets from the mobile phone is nearly impossible
9. Agents collude with the authorities to book tatkal tickets in bulk
10. Touts use software to grab tatkal tickets
11. During tatkal booking the site stops booking for 10 minutes from 10AM
12. No discount for senior citizens in tatkal
13. The Captcha are truly very difficult to read specially Tatkal booking time

1. Yesterday I lost money on three transaction in a span of 3 minutes..here are the transaction numbers..100000231853018, 100000231758179 and 100000231853170. In the payment status it shows as "Payment Settled" but I have not received the cash back – Raghu Vishwanath

Tatkal tickets should be allotted on lottery basis. It is the only way to ensure justice as people with latest software and internet get preference over poor commuters. In practice Tatkal tickets are just a paid lottery on so why not make it free lottery and eliminate corruption. The simple way is start booing in morning for two hours and draw random sampling lottery and sms the allottee to pay the charges within specified period. It will ensire equitable justice to all and will eliminate all middleman.

TATKAL WAITING LIST IS UNWARRANTED AFTER HIGHNUMBER OF TATKAL QUOTA. AGAIN TATKAL WAITING LIST DEPREVIES THE GENERAL WAITING LIST CHANCE AS AFTER TATKAL TIME EVERY ALTERNATE CANCELLATION IS ALLOTTED TO TATKAL WAITING LIST.

Tatkal quotas are very high about 250 to 300 in sleeper class and 16 to 96 in 3 A/C (16 per coach) resulting in huge waiting list . It is the main cause for all rush for booking, touts, bribe etc. I have detailed the causes and solutions in my post TATKAL-TOUTS- CORRUPTION.

After the start of Tatkal booking, what would be the status of general waitlisted passengers. Once I had faced a situation like this. My general waitlist ticket was not confirmed and I could not secure a ticket in Tatkal and hence I booked my journey by bus. I thought since my ticket was in waitlist, it gets automatically cancelled. But all of a sudden, I think at the time of chart preperation, I got a message that my ticket is confirmed. So I lost money. How to resolve such situation.
