Reduction of Subsidies burden - Highly required for development

As per the revised estimates for the year 2013-14, total subsidy given was Rs. 2,55,516, crore. The share of food subsidy was 36% (Rs.92000 crore) followed by petroleum subsidy having a share of 33.45 %(Rs.85 480 crore), fertiliser subsidy having a share of 26.60% (Rs.67971 crore) and other subsidies share was 3.95% (Rs.10065 crore). Higher subsidy will adversely affect the development works. I think following aspects are to be taken into account :

- As quantum of food subsidy is huge so identification of BPL families should be proper. Each village should be given limited target to identify the BPL families on the basis of Wealth ranking. It would help in proper identification through cohesiveness.

- Petroleum subsidy should be given on the basis of "Ability to Pay ". The Statement made by Hon'ble FM for removal of subsidy for affordable people should be welcomed.

- Imbalance use of fertiliser adversely affect the soil fertility and State Exchequer. So farmers with soil health card should be eligible for fertiliser subsidy upto the recommended doses. State Govts should be made responsible for arranging the facilities of soil testing to the farmers. more

Some subsidies are useful for development. Due to the Subsidy Scheme on "Rural Godown Scheme" the storage capacity for foodgrains was created. A capacity of more than 112 lakh Metric Tonne (Only in MP) has been created due to this scheme. But such scheme should be implemented on selective basis rather than on universal basis. more
As per the Ministry of Petroleum, 3.56 crore beneficiaries have been given an amount of Rs. 5456 crore under Direct Benefit Transfer of LPG (DBTL).The per beneficiaries the cash transferred was Rs.1532/-. It is not clear that the amount given is after 15 Nov 2014 or any earlier date of scheme was taken but we can see the quantum of assistance is significant which needs to be curtailed and only needy families should be rationalised. more
They must remove all subsidies including what the Government is providing to our MPs and MLAs. They are all being misused. more
Average Petrol subsidy per family estimated at was Rs.3500/- during 2013-14. more
During 2013-14, the average subsidy per person given by Central Govt (excld. State Govt Subsidy) was Rs.2500/- which means per family subsidy given was Rs. 12500/- more
