Prior to implementation of GST w.e.f 1st July 2017, the rate of the plate was Rs. 142/- The rate now stands to Rs. 190/- i.e 30% increase just on account of implementation of GST. The impact of the increase should not be felt by the consumers, hence the discount of 15%. But surprisingly why under composition scheme, the impact of GST should be 30%. There is no reason for a restaurant to increase the effective price including taxes as the tax rates have been reduced or maintained. This is a discretionary spend for a customer and we should not buy from them.

If VAT was 14% and GST is 18% then only 4% extra should be levied.It seems that restaurants have not reduced the earlier price by 14%(VAT) and charging 18% on old price.

@Shri Yogendra Garg Ji. I am just summarising the discussion with the restaurant on a telephonic call from him. The telephonic discussion on 26th July 2017 with the restaurant leads to believe that the consumers are being mislead. To a query, the caller revealed that the price increase is on a/c of GST. When told that no GST has been charged, the caller said the GST is included in the price and will be paid by the restaurant. I specifically asked what is the tax that would be paid by him to the tax department. He confirmed it will be paid at the rate of 18%. It was really surprising to hear as the rate of GST in case of composition scheme is 5% and the restaurants have added 30% in the prices. He could not reply as to the earlier price was also inclusive of VAT at 14%. In nutshell, just in the name of GST, the net profit gained by the restaurant just on a/c of GST alone is 14%+ 25% i.e close to 40%. Hence it is believed that Le Chef is adapting to Unfair Business Practices and is adapting to undue profiteering, misleading the consumers and hence the intervention of GST Council is requested. I would request Local Circle Manager to kindly take up with the GST Council. I recall GST Council that the complaints of undue profiteering would be seriously looked into.

These people are opportunist, its a reason for them to increase the rate in the name of GST. In reality, absolutely there is no impact of GST on Hotel industry Rates, they are misusing the new Tax System this has to be brought to the notice of authorities and hope this circle also will report the same.
And please note that there are honest hoteliers also; I had been to a Hotel during last week, they haven't charged me GST coz that Hotel's turnover is below Rs.20 lakhs pa I blv.
had been to a Restaurant in Bangalore just few days back they charged only 5% since they are coming under that slab, they mentioned.

Hotels are the worst service providers anything matters/any issues either becos of increase in cost of ingredients/vegetables/manpower they just increase the food rates as high as their margin !!! but once rate increased they never fall back though decrease in cost of vegetables/ingredients/pulses etc., they are in the habit of only increase and never ever decrease the price !!
