Policing in Rural India - Inputs on Issues

Dear all:

Some of you have written to us about reviewing this subject as they relate to citizen harassment, corruption etc.

We would like to seek your inputs on key issues faced by rural India in regards to policing.

Once we list the issues, we will have a separate discussion on Root Causes and Solutions and submit a whitepaper to Central and State Government leadership.

I look forward to your inputs!

Why blame the police alone. The devolution of powers and decentralisation upto grassroot levels has not only decentralised corruption but also caste, religious and other divides among society.Who is to be blamed for this? Those Gandhi devotees, Lohia devotees and Periyar devotees who have ruled the Centre, state and coalitions for the major portion of the rule. more
Policing in rural areas serves the interest of ruling parties rather than their basic duty to maintain law and order. Influenced person provides police logistic support free of cost to target opponent and help ruling party candidates in election to allow distribution of money and liquor to voters to vote in their favor more
While I fully agree that the Police sometimes presents a gory picture of law and order, with involving in criminal activities as well as corruption, we need to appreciate that the pay packets that they draw are pathetically poor. With the amount of stress, strain and risk that they endure while dispensing their duties is phenominal and in return what they get as salaries are peanuts really!! It is indeed a pitiable condition. I strongly feel that their pay packets should undergo a major revision. Once having done this, the administration can be strict towards them and start using the stick on those defying the law and getting involved in corruption. more
I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH ADITI DATTA . I ADD THE LEFT OUT TO CONSIDER. THE INDIAN POLICE SHALL BE MADE UNDERSTOOD AND MEMORIZE THEIR OATH AND DUTY OF THEIR EMPLOYMENT. THE INDIAN POLICING SHALL NOT SHELTER OR BE OVER MASTERED BY THE FIVE YEARS RESTRICTIVE AUTHORITY BASED POLITICAL RULERS AND LEADERS. more
