Many suggestions have come regarding banning the touts or agents for helping someone who is applying for a new/renewable passport. Passport is an essential document whether one need this for traveling abroad or to keep as an identity document. Owning a passport is our right. In fact the government must encourage people to own a passports instead of the various cards like Aadhaar/PAN/Voter/and other identification cards. When issuing the passport all the required procedures like taking your photo,thump impressions, iris impression etc are taken and there is no need to repeat all these again for issue of all other cards. These are only repetitive procedures and are time consuming and become costly. People use agents for their convenience because going to the passport office and following the rigorous procedures are cumbersome, especially when you are old. For senior citizens, engaging an agent must be allowed. The passport office can officially register the renowned travel agents to help old, handicapped and other people. Government can register and announce the list of travel agents who are allowed to do passport work. Like felicitation centers engaged for issuing visas by most of the embassies. If the submission of application along with necessary copies of documents are made on line the problem could be reduced mostly. Banning the help of the agents totally is not wanted and is not desirable. more
