Online Services as a solution to end middlemen and corruption

The residents of Delhi can now apply for a learning driving licence sitting at your home as the Delhi Government launched online registration for driving licences, registration certificates and permit-related services of its transport department.

The Delhi government has started an online application process for 33 services of the Transport department for which now an applicant will not have to visit the regional transport office (RTO).
The online services include duplicate driving licence, change in address, new conductor licence, registration certificate, NOC, industrial driving permit, DL replacement, road tax, RC particular, insurance NOC, fresh permit for goods vehicle, permit renewal, duplicate permit, transfer permit, surrender permit, permit transfer and passenger service vehicle badge among others.

All states must do so. Residents must demand so. more

This facility is there since a long time. It is not state specific. The portal where one applies for DL and other vehicle related services is owned by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. When one is availing such services, the user is prompted by the portal to select his/her state. The services cannot be availed without selecting the state. more
Applying online for a specific purpose or work and getting the work done without a physical visit to RTA office are two different issues. After applying online and getting the token number or the number of the registration of the application , whatever it may be, if an applicant needs to visit the RTA to complete the required formalities and/or to collect the orders/documents, introduction of the new system only for submission of applications would be of no use, rather, it would enhance the scope for middlemen involvement. more
Good move. In fact, I dream of a country where almost all services will be online (with people being tech savvy - you see even people with very little formal education being good with technology). Perhaps, one day, through biometric identification, one can even vote in one's own registered constituency. This online voting will ensure that more than 95% of population can participate in the process of democracy. more
The Karnataka Govt is far better at this, and has started long ago. Residents of Karnataka, especially the urban and semi-urban areas are also far more tech savvy, and very few people really visit Govt offices for these services. The people of Tamizh Nadu are also very tech savyy at using the online services of the TN Government. Both the states are far ahead of Delhi. more
Stop your dick measuring contest. We should appreciate if there's something good in system. more
From my experience, I feel that it has benefited a very limited class of people and have added new types of middleman because large population of senior citizens, people in rural areas or those not nicely conversant with use of computers are to look for new types of middleman. It is time consuming and more expenditure than what was spent earlier. Feeling like raising multistory building on foundation of sand. My personal perception may be wrong. more
It has benefited at least some people. That is good to start with. In another 5-10 years, more than 75-80 % of people will be benefit and that will almost wipe middlemen. After all, that is what the new farmers' bill is aimed at. This is based fundamentally on what Sri Kurien did in Gujarat to usher in first milk and then the oil revolution. more
