Needs of people to face the flood in future

1. Meteorological department was informing us that it would rain heavily again within 1 day gap. We were getting the same news for 2 more days but no rain. After 3 days Rain started and it was very heavy next day too. Now it is being informed that there will be rain for another 1 week, today rain is less. If the correct news is given would help the public to take precautions.
2. When the rain alert is given, people walked toward few of the schools and colleges, but they were not allowed inside. Please as a flood measures there should be a procedure for warning people: instructing school, college, hotels, etc., to allow the people to settle, leaves to be given automatically for the works particularly private concern, People should opt public vehicle rather than utilizing own vehicles like car.
3. Coals being stocked are wet in such a way that unless it is made little hot cannot be utilized for the production. It is well know that from oct – dec it would rain, why not the precautionary steps not taken to keep coal away from the rain water??
4. The digging of soil is not properly done in the ponds and reservoirs, it was in the hands of the farmers it seems, now it is taken under the control of government, this is the news from news channels. People who are farming the crops that would yield them money after a 6 months to one year can be utilized for the digging of soil. Those soils are used for preparing Deepam during deepavali. As paper, plastic deepam are manufactured many people are unemployed.
5. The main problem during flood time is the fund transfer, where to send the funds and how do the people get benefitted from the funds.
• People wanted food, particularly milk for kids are more essential. So people are to be requested to make milk available for the kids, rather than first come first served basis.
• Increase in price should also be avoided. Because even poor children were their parents will not earn during rain are also a human beings who are to be fed.
• Net banking should be encouraged as ATM’s cannot function effectively. For which the a/c numbers of the charity, even the government disaster account number as to be made aware to the people.
6. Settlement of people near the pond, in few places ponds are being converted to plots. I request government to take this opportunity to allot a better place for the hut people who are the first sufferers as they are the one who settle in those places. This is the right time for the govt to make them move to the better place.
7. Compensation during floods: At the time of flood people are in need of food and at least good sanitation. For the people like farmers, depending upon the period of crops if it is less than 2-3 months, or even less than that as to be watched so as to avoid unnecessary fund wastage. It is all the people who have lost their valuables even in more sophisticated area. more

The requirement is very much felt by the people. The prediction of rain (any weather condition ) is not accurately possible. The weather forecast/ prediction is based on many parameters. We won't get all the p arameters. More over the interpretation software is also not proper; I think. So the forecast may have some correction factors. But a flooding can be predicted as soon as the starts. First of all the drainage system should be analysed. Then the information of rain fall of each station in the neighborhood should reach the forecasting station immediately. Then the precautionary measures can be adopted before affecting a loss. more
My suggestion is drainage system should be different from the channel where the rain water is send. Because the flow of rain water will be very high which the drainage pipes cannot bare it. Even if the rain water is send though drainage pipes when heir is heavy flow of water their is possibility for the drainage water getting mixed with the rain water, which will cause many problems more
Heavy Rains, Floods, Cloud Burst are not happening for the first time in our country. When Mumbai received 900+ mm of rain in 1 day , it came out that the Drainage system was blocked due to negligence of local body & hence the damage. No one learnt any lesson from it and hence we are condemned to undergo same agony again & again. The centre (read citizens of India) is the worst sufferer as it has to provide large sum of funds for relief work for the negligence (people's money) of local body. This is happening despite of existence of Disaster Management Authority. Why MET deptt can't acquire tools for perfect prediction (S.Korea & US have such tools) ? Why local bodies are allowed to exist as dead bodies (we pay for them)? The solution - Drainage lines should be clear & wide enough to let the excess water flow (This is being done in Jaipur & Surat), remove the barriers. This will save lives, property and funds. more
I hope the department using certain data indicate the way it travels they can not predict more than that point. But it fails depend on nature's movement with out any bodies control more
In a vast country like India it is pretty common for some parts of the country to be hit by natural calamities like the one Tamil Nadu capital is facing with millions of people severely impacted. This could happen anywhere in the country and the cause may be flooding, heat wave, severe storm and so on. It is a pity that even sixty eight years after liberation of India from the shackles of colonialism the country does not have a proper crisis management team (CMT). The country should have had in place a CMT in every state and they should have been well set to instantly trigger into action instantly whenever the need arises. No doubt our defence forces are pretty well equipped to respond quickly emergency such as the one in Chennai. Is that enough? How about our bureaucratic system? Is it well-equipped to handle emergencies with adequate supplies of basic needs of the affected population? Is there an appropriate mechanism to release the required supplies so that desperate people are provided with their basic needs reasonably quickly. With what has been happening in Chennai one can aptly conclude that the local government response was pretty slow or practically absent as could be gauged from how affected people have reacted with a deep sense of frustration rather than anger. One does not however deny the fact that sometimes the size of calamity could be enormous and the calamity itself is totally unexpected. Still, whatever possible action to assist the needy should be taken without being asked for and with the least possible delay. The Central and State governments must have learnt by now the pattern of such calamities and made some advance preparations considering the pattern of such events. Hopefully, the new government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will establish a new direction to deal with natural calamities across the nation! more
