Natural gas pipeline project in Kerala & Karnataka forging ahead but stranded in Tamil Nadu
Rs. 5000 crore LNG import terminal project was commissioned in Kochi, Kerala several years back. This project was set up to import natural gas and distribute it by pipeline to Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to promote industrial growth in the region.
The natural gas pipeline installation project by GAIL (government of India undertaking) was started in 2012 but could not proceed in Tamil Nadu due to opposition from politicians, some agricultural groups and so called environmental activists. So, this pipeline project that was to pass through Coimbatore, Salem, Dharmapuri and nearby regions was stranded and subsequently suspended in Tamil Nadu.
Initially, there was some opposition for the pipeline project in Kerala too. However, government of Kerala and government of Karnataka understood the significance , importance and need for the project and tactfully convinced the protestors and facilitated the implementation of the project, that would take the natural gas by pipeline from Kochi – Kuttanad – Bangalore – Mangalore, without passing through Tamil Nadu. Now, the pipeline project from Kochi to Kuttanad will be ready in the month of July,2018. Pipeline from Kochi to Bangalore and from Kuttanad to Mangalore is under fast implementation and will be ready by end 2018 for commissioning.
With the implementation of the pipeline project running to a length of around 438 kilometre, Kerala and Karnataka will be highly benefited , as several thousand crores of rupees of investment using natural gas as feedstock and fuel would happen in Kerala and Karnataka and nearby regions.
Further, in these regions, natural gas will be supplied by pipeline to households for cooking purposes and for commercial units, making LPG cyclinders unnecessary.
However, with the suspension of the natural gas pipeline project in Tamil Nadu, people in Tamil Nadu are now left to simply look at the successful implementation of the project in Kerala and Karnataka.
Should not those who blocked the natural gas pipeline project passing through Coimbatore, Salem , Dharmapuri and nearby regions answerable to the people of Tamil Nadu for strangulating this meaningful project?

Land has become dearer and that too the Agri lands. It is hard to reclaim a fertile land. People will have their fears, it is the Govt to allay their fears. In Kerala the pipelines are laid through highways and not across the Agri lands. Already the Agri lands are shrinking with water scarcity. We can talk about development and the protesters, it is much more scarier for these villagers in the immediate present but our future generation will be accustomed to the arid lands. So we leave nothing who bothers!

ALL THESE FLY BY NIGHT PROTESTERS WITH VESTED INTEREST EMERGED ONLY DUE TO LACK OF STRONG LEADERSHIP IN TAMILNADU. AS AND WHEN THEIR WANTS SERVED, PROTESTS BECOME VOID. ALL THESE HAPPENING ONLY DUE TO LACK OF WHIPPING OR INITIATE PROMPT PUNITIVE ACTION AGAINST THESE FRINGE ELEMENTS

There are some politicians who create a problem and then vanish when money exchanges hands . They survive only by such doles as they need to spend enormous amounts during elections. The people need to wake up on their nefariousness designs. If they don't ,they will lose in the long run and other states will benefit.

Perhaps a discussion on what must be done to minimize these problems (even it is not real) would be better than this type of crying aloud. "Initially, there was some opposition for the pipeline project in Kerala too. However, government of Kerala and government of Karnataka understood the significance , importance and need for the project and tactfully convinced the protestors and facilitated the implementation of the project, that would take the natural gas by pipeline from Kochi – Kuttanad – Bangalore – Mangalore, without passing through Tamil Nadu" How they convinced them?

when there is natural disaster every one expects HELP from centre irrespective of the party ruling. Likewise when people stranded abroad immdtly they seek assistance from centre. Where ever it is concerning human beings irrespective of the party ruling the state they approach assistance from centre. The natural gas pipe project also to benefit every citizen of the state then how come the state ruling party can object? The Constitutional provisions needs to be amended accordingly.
