Ministry of Road Transport needs to be woken up

They are making vehicle scrap policies without consulting common people. Their focus group is auto companies who want to somehow see boost in auto sales. So policy says scrap old vehicle in 10 years and your registration of new vehicle will be free. Has anyone thought about the consumer??

My parents who reside in lucknow have a vehicle thats 12 years old has 45000 km and meets all pollution checks. Why should they scrap it and buy new. Just because auto companies cant sell enough cars.

LC -Please escalate this to minister responsible. I dont want to sell may parents functional vehicle at Rs 15 per kg just to get free vehicle registration.

Best is not to by new one and use rented vehicles. more
I am Senior Citizen of 75 years of age.We use the Car for 3-4 days in a month and may be around 200 Kms per month. My car has done only 38000 kms.I am myself an Engineer by profession and maintain the car properly including PUC.Even Aircrafts flies safely approximately for 25 years without any problem,if maintained properly. This life of 10 years has been propogated by Car Manufacturers lobby. Why we should be compelled to retire a car after 10 years specially when we are Senior Citizen and require Car for our own convenience. more
For personal vehicles the life of the vehicle is certified as 15 years by the RTO and the vehicle manufacturer. In todays economy when all the manufacturers including car manufacturers are launching new models every year how are we as customers expecting to find spares for 15 year models now. Have we realised that if our car is 8 - 10 years old then our model is no longer being manufactured by the car maker. Imagine the scenario after 15 years. It will be very difficult to get the car serviced (as the trained technicians and the testing Equipments / software's will not be available) and the spare parts might not be available or will be spurious. I am quoting this from my personal experience. I used to own a Daewoo Cielo car and after the company closed down, I had to literally hunt for trained mechanics (and they used to charge a bomb) and had to use spurious spare parts which were not safe and used to break down quite frequently. I had to then sell of the car (most expensive in those days) in scrap (Rs. 30,000/-) for not being able to get spare parts costing Rs. 5000/-. After that I made a decision and sold off each of my car every 2- 3 years irrespective of performance / mileage / Km's. Today I am on my 6th car (post Cielo) and planning to sell of this one also next year. I have also realised that with the maturing of the radio taxi's it is actually much easier / cheaper / safer to rent a car then actually own a car. more
Agreed, that consumer must be consulted. Unilateral decision based on car manufacturers will create chaos. Most of the senior citizens in urban area use car which are normally well maintained and driven very less than the normal. I'm also a senior citizen I drove my car around 50,000 kilometers in 12 years. Pollution is well under control. We, the senior citizens, use the car for going around in the market nearby places and that also two to three times a week.... The 15 years age of the car will be a hammer on senior citizens having limited resources and energy. Policy makers must develop a scheme which can suit to senior citizens also........ Local Circles should take up our concerns...... more
I whole heartily give my consent. Why should consumers be penalised ? My vehicle is 2007 make,it has done only 80000kms, it meets all pollution checks. i AM A RETIRED OFFICER, LIVES ONLY ON MY PENSION, The govt ought to take decisions in consumers favour.
