Medical Lab Malpractices - Inputs Needed

Dear Friends:

Several of you have written to us on the subject issue. With this post, we would like to seek your inputs on issues related to Medical Labs.

We would appreciate as much detail as you can share so the circle has a clear understanding of all medical lab malpractices.

Once the issues are know, we will review Root Causes and Solutions separately to put together a comprehensive whitepaper on the subject.

We are confident that together we will be able to make Medical Tests/Diagnostics much more transparent and citizen oriented.

We look forward to your inputs!

For medical labs a better rules and regulations with a law framing is a good idea to deterrent them from malpractices. I already wrote on this form on how the Govt hospital labs are misguiding and putting lot of harassment to public is difficult to describe. They are cruel and inhuman ,need a scientific approach on this all issues.Recently one of my known was admitted in a renowned hospital of Delhi - Doctors of the hospital pick pocketed a big money from the family and given a report that patient is suffering from blood cancer as per their lab report. They advice further that there is no facility to treat the patient in the hospital so take him to another hospital. When they shifted to the second hospital after tests doctors advised the patient that there is no blood cancer. This family lost Rs.2 lac approx in the episode. The harassment and the terror/fear given to the family is not explainable. The same way I also gone through such a story where the laboratory of a Govt hospital put me in trouble after blood test for months together and my family into problems 7 years back. They only done it to make wrong record of blood and used my donated blood unit for their own use or racket. The above stories are a daily basis happening with the loopholes in the health departments and laboratories. The common people who believe doctors and other health department people as gods. But what and how they are using the knowledge to confuse the suffering people is very sad( tremendous harassment). All medical labs should provide Discounted rates to poor and low income groups. The Govt. of India should make a law on this. There should be an accreditation body of the Labs and they must and must be adhered to the policy framework. more
Instead of commenting here, if you find any specific case of malpractice at Lab, you should take specific logical step to report and follow up. Only writing comments may not help.... more
At the time of giving Sample for path test.. Drs name should be avoided, and there should be a vigilance or close watch on accounting and auditing of all path labs on regular basis. Govt. may ask them to send monthly Sales cum income report, once a format designed through mail only. Soft ware may be developed to initiate this process...and every path lab has to use the same for issue of receipt & income. more
Medical laboratories is a important place where state Govt to be take attention.Labs are related to a citizens life and wealth. It is a most corrupt area.People are cheated through the tools called lab tests. Not only people's money, but they are cheated emotionally with help of labs. Even blood banks/laboratories in Govt hospitals of Delhi are horrible places.I have bitter experiences in such labs in Delhi, which I can't put in public domain due to reasons. If any MLA or Minister interested to know my story,I can share it confidentially. A scientifically and economically suitable all tests should be available in Govt hospital with properly equipped labs & good technicians. A proper guide line for private labs to be implemented in Delhi.Every tests rates to be controlled or fixed in all privet labs.Periodical inspections to the labs in Delhi to be conducted by some competent authorities. Thanks. A P Madhusudanan. more
