Being shipped across maharashtra and India. Time to act CM and Govt of Maharahstra and raid every fruit mandi and stop the use of deadly calcium carbide to ripe mangoes. Also stop its import to Mumbai port from China. more

@Manju Patel, Why single out Ratnagiri Mangoes? Every fruit, even bananas are ripened using chemicals. Even the Alphonso mangoes that are grown in Gujarat and Karnataka are ripened that way and worse, they are passed off to the customers as Ratnagiri Hapus mangoes using fake packings as the one shown in the photograph you have posted. I am myself a mango farmer from Ratnagiri. I have never used any chemicals to hasten the ripening of mangoes. As a result, my fruits are not very attractive in appearance and colour (The skin gets spotted and unattractive in appearance if they are naturally ripened) but they are absolutely free of harmful chemicals and have an unmatched flavour and fragrance. If the consumers fall for just the appearance of the fruit without valuing the fragrance and flavour, this unethical practice is going to continue. Consumers should learn to be discerning if this practice has to stop. Sale of Carbide cannot be banned altogether as it has many other applications in other industries too and as long as it is available for others, it will be availble for Mango traders too. Another important thing, very insignificant number of Farmers engage in such practice. It is mostly the traders and the middlemen who do this to get a better price and quick disposal of the produce that they buy at throwaway prices from the farmers. more

why are these mangoes so expensive like Rs 125 per piece. In northern andceastern part of the country much tastier with fascinating flavour are available that are never sold in pieces. Mangoes like langda dussehri gulabkhas are far superior to alphonso variety. it is only a hype and marketing of alphonso. Mangoes that grow on trees at least a thousand per tree per season cannot be sold at Rs 125 per piece. That is what a mangoe lover like me in thinks. Ask any person from up country about alphonso they have never heard of. more

If you fancy Langda and Dussheri, buy them by kilos and enjoy them. Forget Alphonsos, they are not meant for you if you cannot afford them.
You seem to be ignorant of what it takes to nurture and grow an Alphonso tree. Please do not ever get into calculations of cost Vs Price in case of Alphanso Mangoes. Alphonsos are the king of all the mangos and will remain such till eternity. They are meant for Kings and Princes, not for Paupers and penny pinchers. more

its difference between maruti and mecedes Benz.No camparison between Alphanso and langda or dussehri. But it is not costly like Rs.125. This is cost at beginning of season then it comes down to 25-30 per piece. more
