Making Healthy Food Affordable in India

I dont know a better platform than LocalCircles to post this on but we really need to work as a group to make healthy food options affordable

300ml Coconut Water is priced at Rs 60 in Mumbai while 750ml Thums Up is available for Rs 40. An apple costs 3-4 times as much as a vada pav.

If we cannot make healthier food options affordable & accessible for our people, we do not stand a chance at preventing lifestyle diseases.

Request everyone here to share their best ideas here. Its our upcoming and future generations who will all be impacted because with scale prices of hfss foods will keep going down in relative terms. more

Should a 750ml bottle drink (say, Thums Up) cost Rs.40/- ? Add 20% max. to the price of bottled drinking water ( NO! NOT 'MINERAL WATER') to cover the cost of sugar, colour and flavour ---- AND , of course, the cost of showing the pictures of celebs drinking the same (along with eardrum penetrating cerebrum torturing accoustics) - in TV, magazines, News Papers, etc. more
Make sure to consume 100% home made foods including curd, which are healthier than any other foods for sure. more
Prices of commodities depend on demand and supply and comparing the prices of apple with pao-vaji or vada-pao and coconut water with the soft drinks like thumsup is rather foolishness. Even if the price of 300 ml coconut water comes down to Rs. 20 or 30 and a kg of apple is sold at Rs.50 or so, only 20-30% of our people would be financially capable to consume them regularly. Rest of the people would rely on plain water and eatables, like vada-pao which would meet their thirst and hunger and most of these people are healthier than you and me. Consumption of coconut water and apple is not essential to remain healthy, as I feel. more
