Make the seating in Double Decker comfortable
One good thing about the double decker train is that it is
quiet fast (5 hrs. 30 mins between Chennai and Bangalore).
However, it is the most uncomfortable AC chair car train to
travel in. The seats are about 1ft by 1ft and the head rest
is straight, The passengers have to sit in a crouching
position. Only extremely thin people can barely manage to sit in the seat. if you recline the, person at the back will get
squeezed. The tray table, if you bring it out, it will hit
your chest.
The net result is that after the 5 to 6 hours of travel, one
gets a back pain.
To make it more comfortable, railways need to :
1. Remove some rows, so that there is more leg space between rows.
2. Make it 2 by 2 seater instead of 3 by 2 to make the seats wider.
3. 2 by 1 seats in each row, in at least a few coaches with an additional charge.
This would at least make the seating comfortable.
This is all the more necessary, especially in the Chennai<-> Banglaore route, since on 2 days a week there is
only one Shatabdi and the AC coach has been removed from
Brindavan express.
The railway authority should urgently look into this serious issue and ensure redesigning the sitting arrangements of these coaches urgently. Its a serious lapse of engineering that the passengers' comfort has been completely ignored. Simultaneously, they can revise the fare to make the loss caused because of reduced number of seats good.

so is the case with the double decker running between Ahmedabad-Mumbai {12932}. the seats are not comfortable to seat for more than 7 hours journey.the engineers/architects must know what they design and why????the side seats/berths in all sleeper coaches are completely inadequate to sleep a 6 feet-passenger.the upper berth shoud also have enough space so that a passenger can seatproperly before he go for sleep.lastly, i am advocating colour scheme for different trains and coches since long.the super fast trains should completely look different from the ordinary or mail-express trains.people travel by mistake in a super fast train and put themselves in trouble which results in monetary penalty..similarly,the general compartments should always have different colour so that the same can be distinguish from far away...besides its position should also be fixed for always in all trains so that it can easily found.and be uniformly applicable to all trains through out India..these are passenger friendly little things and can be implemented for easy use of trains without any extra cost. ajay parikh 14/08/2019 On Friday, August 9, 2019, 12:50:09 PM GMT+5:30, Padmanabhan G wrote:

Completely endorse Mr Padmanabhan G comments/ views on seating in double decker train. Perhaps ICF should study the D. Decker coaches used in Australian Railways and copy them to give a better seating osiut and passenger comfort. The coaches were refrubrished one in my opinion these DD coaches were played in Western Rly. Mumbai and these were subsequently made as AC coaches, a shoddy job. PL look into passenger comfort too.

To offset the cost of lesser seats, Railways could reduce the concession for Sr.Citizens from 50% to 25 or 30% for AC classes (other than III AC). The reason is that most of the Sr. Citizens who claim the benefit for the higher AC classes can "more than afford" to pay the full fare. So, a lesser concession would be good enough.

Are you a senior citizen? If yes, do you forgo the concession while purchasing a rail ticket for youself or other senior citizens of your family?

This is a different angle but a good one. I think we need to start private + government partnership in these services. Also have a site where customers send the thoughts and reviews. That directly monitored and changes are made. We are a great democracy and still trying to act like a socialist country. Centralized system does no good and should be changes.
