Learning it from mistakes - Toilets in village schools
This is about a school which exists for more than 125 years now. The Alumni includes at least 25 PhDs, hundreds of engineers working in MNCs like Infosys, Wipro, HCL in the senior posts, IITians, reputed university professors, artists and bunch of NRIs. It is in the state of Karnataka, District Uttara Kannada, Tahsil Kumta, Village Kujalli with Male Population 986, Female Population 893, Total Population 1879.
There were days when the children from surrounding villages used to attend this school and get their primary education. Today, the number of schools in the adjourning area have increased, but with very poor amenities. The parents are not willing to send their wards to these schools, instead, enroll them in private schools in the nearby towns. Small kids travel at least 15 kms in buses and private vehicles and are forced to participate in so called "learning drama" replicating the lifestyle of their urban counterparts.
It looks like the village is abandoned by the alumni - learned scholars who have opted to settle down in the cities. Those who have remained back, because of their own reason, in the village are deserting these government run schools to catch up with the RAT RACE !
