Inputs Sought: Garbage Burning in India

Below are the key solutions as identified by you in regards to garbage burning in India. Kindly review and if you have anything additional, please share your comments.

We will compile a checklist to be shared with our leadership and then disseminate it to all ULBs across India.

Swachh Bharat Mission

1. Burning garbage openly should be completely banned and created awareness about by ULBs
2. Checks should be made by roping in Citizen Reporting with Municipal/Police enforcement
3. The organic and hazardous garbage should be burnt through an incinerator to avoid air pollution
4. RWAs and other resident bodies should make sure that the residents are strictly advised on not burning garbage
5. Large compost pits/bins should be maintained in every society/colony
6. RWAs should be authorised to fine anyone found burning garbage in their area
7. Awareness should be improved to reduce burning of rubber/plastic materials openly
8. People should be educated about the diseases caused by burning waste in open
9. Private vendors should be engaged for door to door garbage pickup free of cost
10. Every district should have at least one garbage treatment plant. more

I suggest a garbage processing plant for my city Ghaziabad on the pattern of Chandigarh and other cities in south more
The plastics have even reached the villages, so even village people should be taught to manage the garbage properly so that it does not harm their heath or poisons the crops they crow!! more
Because burning trash in the open pollutes environment, it is obviously the responsibility of the Pollution Control department employees and Board members whom the public expect to have thought about solving the issue. What we as citizens need to do in similar situations is to find out what went wrong and find out ways to ensure that it does not happen again. Our job is not doing what public servants are paid to do! Right? The only solution is thhat all type of waste, garbage, tree leaves, etc are collected and removed every morning religiously. This can be done by RWAs, if they are paid even 50% of what Municipalities are spending. more
