How to improve Solid Waste Transportation
1. The waste transportation system should be systematically organised
2. The solid waste transportation should be done through specially designed vehicles, which are totally closed while in movement on the road
3. These vehicles should have separate sections to carry segregated waste
4. The workers loading waste into the trucks should be given proper protective gear
5. The trucks should be fixed with a GPS system so that their whereabouts could be ascertained
6. All waste transportation trucks should have an automated mechanism to pick up garbage
7. Collection and transportation should be during non-peak transport hours
8. There should be a fixed route and schedule for each vehicle
9. The solid waste must be transported to a minimum distance from various city points and just outside city
10. Vehicles used for clearing garbage should be renovated/re-equipped. If maintenance cost is more, they should be replaced with a new vehicle
11. All the truck bodies should be upgraded to stainless steel to avoid corrosion.

One member aptly said that truck body should be made of stainless steel so that they do not get corroded and spill the waste enroute to garbage dumping grounds.

First let there be a system of waste collection in designed segregated form at designated places & then only next step of transportation be taken.

Please believe me, we should have progressed from what is proposed in the last 10-12 years. All this is written in preamble of MSW 2000 rules and this is 2016. Time has come to evaluate - if we do what we know, - Why did not we do it ? - corrective steps if any - we in fact know much more than we did in 2000-01 and also know why did not we perform. and how can we perform. If we continue reinventing zero, we shall not reach anywhere. It is an exercise in redundancy. The thing is before we decide what to do, we also decide on how can we show that we are doing and actually dont do. I am available to any expert on the subject for a discussion. CSE and CJI decide that we should not use bigger vehicles to save on pollution and transportation, so you got to use bullock cart for collection and transportation

good suggestions & one more thing is if the garbage is kept in closed storage tanks for two days, i hope it will generate gas & can be used for power. can be checked.

Educational institutions are the place where waste management must be used as an education tool to orient students and teachers to understand appreciate the need for controlling waste and the need for recycling waste.Invariably educational institutes must have roof top gardens and organic waste recycling for making organic manures.The organic manure so produced should be used as potting mixtures to produce a range of vegetables.flowers and fruits which can be used and sold by the institutes!
