Imported Foods Standards
Are there any standards that importers of foods are supposed to follow in terms of storage and shelf life management.
For example many packaged imported foods are supposed to be kept in refrigerator or controlled temperature but many Indian shops selling them shut their ac in night time and hence these foods loose nutritional value.
We end up buying them and many times the shopkeepers dont accept the returns atleast the ones in Delhi.
Like to hear from experts how this should be handled and if there are bis standards for the same and if they are mandatory or voluntary more

State govts are the least responsible persons and do not care unless they need money. Ideally i would say fssai should have at least in each major city where they can take the grievances of the customers and act on these kind of issues when brought to their notice. more

In food it is FSSAI regulations which apply equally to domestic production as to imports. Enforcement is with state govts. You can complain to state govt authorities. more

yes implementation is very bad from fssai and it is high time they wake up from their deep slumber more

Dear Rajeev Mittal: THERE ARE MANY MANY REGULATIONS GOVERNING SO MANY MATTERS ON FOOD BY FSSAI BUT MY QUESTION HAS ALWAYS BEEN " HOW MANY HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED..??.."...VERY FEW, MAYBE..!!.. FSSAI HAS BEEN WEAK ON IMPLEMENTING OR ENFORCING MANY OF ITS OWN RULES AND REGULATIONS REGARDING LOCALLY PRODUCED " EATABLES FOR SALE " AND THE ONES IMPORTED INTO THE COUNTRY "FOR SALE"..!!.. more
