IAS
the IAS has long lived its utility. This white elephant in India has gone far. and with the time it has lost its usefulness. The former ICS has became IAS after independence. But being a generalist in the time of specialized skillset rquirement, the IAS has outgrown its utility. The Indian system of governance is a changed lot, with the advent of technology, the job has become a specialized one with the requirement of project management experiences, initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, closure with documentation and time bound delivery, the scope is to efficiently carry out the schemes that will help bring law and order with progress on a single page by satisfying the masses. This is a specialized field, that is beyond the generalists mindset, it includes the IAS who carry a generalist's mindset. Hence it would be advisable to stop this nonsense altogether and stop the IAS exam with appointment of IAS generalists who does not specialize in any particular track. Appoint the right persons from IITs, IIMs and get the work done.
There are also some good IAS officers who need to be encouraged. It is true that IAS cadre has become a symbol of power and to get this powerful position Engrs, Doctrs. even many talented and doctorates are vying for IAS and thereby wasting Govt's money and time as well. In Bihar and few other northern states dowry level rises to tizzy heights if the groom is an IAS officer moreover parents flaunt their status as parents of an IAS officer which make them powerful. The moral value of IAS officer depend largely on how they have been groomed by their parents obviously if parents lack honesty in their life's philosophy they will groom children in the same philosophy. Time has come for a change in system and there is no harm in taking this issue seriously. But this will take shape or not is any ones guess

Of course, there is a need for change in the method of selection and training of Officers for administering the government of India. There is no need for doing away with IAS. It is a system and has to continue. The innovation in technology and education need to be incorporated in the system of selection and training methods.
