How to Make Consumer Affairs Better....

Firstly, let us understand who is a consumer. A consumer is defined as someone who acquires goods or services for direct use or ownership rather than for resale or use in production and manufacturing.

There are Consumer protection laws, which aim to protect the rights of consumers. These are a form of government regulations.

In India, the Consumer Protection Act of 1986 is the law governing consumer protection. Under this law, Separate Consumer Dispute Redressal Fora have been set up throughout India in each and every district in which a consumer [complaint can be filed by both the consumer of a goods as well as of the services] can file his complaint on a simple paper with nominal court fees and his complaint will be decided by the Presiding Officer of the District Level.

Appeal could be filed to the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions and after that to the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC). The procedures in these tribunals are relatively less formal and more people friendly and they also take less time to decide upon a consumer dispute. when compared to the years long time taken by the traditional Indian judiciary. In recent years, many effective judgement have been passed by some state and National Consumer Forums .

How to Protect consumers from being influenced by celebrities appearing in Ads.,,,,,

In recent past, a huge number of Objectionable advertisements relating to alleged cures for venereal diseases, stimulants and conditions peculiar to man & women have been published in various newspapers and magazines.

False and misleading advertisements pertaining to health cures can be found in abundance on the World Wide Web too. Among such websites were those that promoted slimming and weight loss cures; all purpose pills that alleviated anything from arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease to kidney problems, tuberculosis, asthma and hepatitis; herbal products and magnetic devices that treated anything from headache and back injuries to insomnia, arthritis, and sprains.

Lot of cheating is happening with the most of the public and nobody is able to prevent or stop. I think so many people are being cheated and culprits are able to escape.

With a view to control the advertisement of drugs in certain cases and to prohibit the advertisement for remedies alleged to possess magic qualities and to provide for matters connected therewith, the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement) Act was enacted in 1954.

Consumer Education and Research society, Ahmadabad, brought to notice of regulatory authority in Gujarat, sale and promotion of certain health gadgets by Conybio Health Care, in violation of Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act.

We all might have seen the advertisements on T V channels that if we find any misleading advertisement on T V channels we can file court case against the company and if company fails to explain its misleading statements, company is liable for punishment as per Laws.

Celebrities are not to be blamed and they do business where as we have to find fault with the companies for their unethical marketing/publicity advertisements .

Negative word of mouth is spread and believed at twice the rate of positive word of mouth. And social media such as Facebook and Twitter allow people to share consumer experiences - both positive and negative - straight away.
Now let us look at the common practice for Companies, Private Banks, Insurance companies to rope in the services of celebrities from the Film fields to canvass for their products and services.

These celebrities jump on to the opportunity which enriches them with hefty fee for such appearances even when these celebrities are not fully aware of the actual benefits of such products or services and above all these celebrities have no inkling of any nature on the deceptive practices of such companies or private banks or insurance companies.

These companies, private banks and insurance companies pay very heavy fee to those celebrities not for charity purpose but to influence the gullible public who are blind followers of such celebrities.

Some of the private banks and their group insurance companies go to any extreme in cheating the customer by alluring to rope in the customer and to later deceive and deprive such customer, such a bank and its insurance company do not hesitate to indulge in unfair and restrictive trade practices by even indulging in criminal acts such as fake documents; fabricated & doctored documents; forgery of signatures; tampering with evidence of forgery etc.

Hence, there should be a complete ban on celebrities to appear in any type of advertisement and if a celebrity does appear, such a person should be awarded with the most stringent punitive action where his money or otherwise power would not bail the person out.

It costs much less to keep an existing customer than to win a new customer, so retaining existing customers is more profitable for business. Customers are looking for their problem to be easy to report, acknowledged and dealt with quickly, sensitively, and fairly. If a company has effective customer complaints systems in place, many of those customers with questions or problems can be retained.

It's much easier to resolve complaints quickly, and thereby save time and keep customers if you have worked out a policy for handling the different types of complaints you receive – e.g., faulty goods, sold out of advertised products.
