Hopefully a valid query !!!
I would like to float a question, addressed to the HR-departments of today's corporates and companies.
Allow me to illustrate the following as a prelude: I started my working life in 1957. The general modus operandi was to give to the employee a letter of appointment which contained terms and conditions of the contract, including the salary.
I may have changed employers 4 - 5 times during the 45 years that followed. Every time it was the same procedure viz. interview, LOA........off to work.......until I retired fifteen years ago. Most of those years I worked outside of India. But I've been living in India since my retirement.
Today, it's our grandchildren who seek employment. And it is here that my query enters the stage.
Is it common today in our country for companies to employ youngsters (after giving them training as interns in the same company), accepting them as full-fledged members of the staff............BUT............ not giving them a Letter of Appointment, not fixing their salaries and, most of all, not even paying them for several months?
This is against all "work-ethics" and against any "work culture" that I've known in my younger years. WOULD APPRECIATE COMMENTS AND VIEWS OF MEMBERS ON THIS SUBJECT, Thanks!!!
The question yet arises though: "should one take it lying down or should one raise a voice against this malpractice called daylight robbery?"

Let me tell you that in todays scenario many small time startups take another route to establish themselves in business. Modus operandi is to register a company. Pick some work from market at low rate. Offer training and placement to freshers. Get the job done from new joiners free of cost on the name of training. Now.... pick up those guys who dont ask much of quistion and are from well to do family background. Either dont pay them regular ... no pf .. no offer / appointment letter and no future. Most of such companies florish at delhi/ banglore like metro cities. My suggestion is that being a fresher if you dont have a good option work hard n keep on searching for better profile and organization. Stay there for sometime untill you have good option in hand as these org would atleast keep you in market and will give you least a experience certificate. Its better to be into doing something related to your field rather sitting ideal at home.

Even schools behave in the same fashion to their teaching staff . No appointment letter ,no prior fixation of Pay n other allowances , Overtime , EPF etc.. Reason conveyed is that they are on contract and shall get these documents on getting absorbed . Fine but the process takes years of the so called probation before one gets permanent ..

Totally illegal to do what has happened to your grandson.

Our labour laws do not make it mandatory to issue an appointment letter. However, the labour laws make it mandatory to give EPF, etc. Such companies may not comply to certain legal provisions. They may not be registered as a legal company - less than 8 employees, they may not have registered as a company, etc. Whatever be the case, one should switch to another job at the earliest without wasting too much energy on this issue.
