GENERATING REVENUES FOR RAILWAYS DEVELOPMENT
*Nothing is possible without money. For development of railways government too needs funds. Every year expenses of railways increase by about 8% due to inflation, salaries/wages hike etc. Therefore railways should consider an increase of 10% every year. Further the railways compensates the losses in passenger traffic by goods traffic incomes, which is not a healthy sign for any organisation. This is the main cause of railways under-development in our country. Government is bearing the losses to perform its social obligation. Any increase in hikes is strongly refused by majority, not the public alone, but even learned MP'S in parliament. CAN ANY BODY TELL HOW YOU RUNS YOUR HOUSE WITH SCARCITY OF INCOME & EVEN EXPECTING ALL FACILITES/SERVICES. IS IT POSSIBLE? THINK.....SERIOUSLY.
** Railways is the biggest organisation, and may hv some lacuna in managing. But this should be run like a professional organisation. Railways huge land bank lies unutilsed for decades.
CAN'T we make good utilisation of this land bank near stations in developing hotels, food courts, parking areas, or other services which are desired by the customers/passengers near the station. Ample funds can be generated in recent times of high land costs. Further, these funds are generated from the land, therefore should be strictly used for new development work only-capacity expansion, new lines ,new trains etc. and not for general expenses.
*** Large PSU'S & Top corporates can be tapped for development work-like new wagons, coaches , new railway lines & use of land bank .
there is little check on the TTEs who collect money and allot seats without receipts. the vigilance team who visit at times collect heavy fine from such ticketless passengers do not hold responsible the duty TTE as they are from the same department and intertransferrable. instead, four to five central and state agencies can be delegated the powers of checking ticketless journey (so that there should not be understanding with the TTEs)and the duty TTE should be held responsible for such ticketless journey if it is proved that he had taken money from passengers without issuing receipts. heavy penalty including suspension from work should be imposed on such TTEs,

Generation of Revenue 1 Revenue from use of land and vertical space 2 Additional revenue from advertising. By streamlining award of advertising rights the revenue from this source can be raised. Advertising rights for one station should be awarded to one agency instead of a large no. of separate contracts for one station. 3 Quicker disposal of old racks and material through auction/ transparent tendering 4 Raising volume / quantum of freight 5 Operating more trains on routes where demand exceeds the supply 6 Cut down procedure and paper work. Adopt more and more technology in working

Trains are running overloaded with hardly hanging space. Throughout India Railways is holding excess land. This land should be used to put more tracks and run more trains so that commuters can travel with ease. To get a confirmed ticket for a long journey requires one months advance booking. With more trains this can change. Railways primary job is to run trains and not run hotels. If railways provide better facility like cleanliness, punctuality, comfortable journey, better quality food people will not mind paying a higher fare.

Charity begins at Home. Why our ministers are not interested to start these activities of curtailing expenses themselves? Government retires people after 60 years. But these MPs, with more than permissible age of retirement, stilling getting salary of Rs.50,000 per month with allowances of Rs.2,000 per day. Even in today's newspaper, despite getting Free AC First Class Passes to MPs and their spouses, now they are demanding Free AC Passes to their Companions too. Common man is arranging funds or borrowing from near & dear to overcome the scarcity of funds and return the money with interest too. But our parliamentarians, if they exceeds their budgetary provisions, impose tax burden on common man. This is continuously going on unabated. Who cares?
