Even Unilever believes in Fictitious MRP

One keeps hearing that FMCG companies operate on low margin but its actually not the case. See this attached example. Unilever top Fmcg publishes MRP of 530 for surf front loading washing powder but sells it for 360 or lower consistently. Have receipts to prove it for 12 months. See attached MRP label and screenshot of sale price.

Can govt bring in some law where mrp cannot be more than 50% of manufacturers Cost. That will cover profit for mfg, distributor stockist and retailer.

At the least brands like unilever shouldnt engage in such practices. This product should not have mrp of more than 400. I have always bought between 300-360. Imagine the uneducated consumer, they may be getting charged 530 for it. more

I have also observed this. Have you looked at olive oils. Even there a standard 50-60% discount off MRP is common. GST should be levied on MRP then all of these guys will stop doing fictitious MRP more
Everything is manageable. We do not have working and effective grievance handling system. Chalta hi chelega culture. more
Yes, we need good MRP pricing standards for these like daylight robbery. I am facing similar problems in buying Pampers, Horlicks, Pediasure, Cardburies and so on. The problem is the price of their sachet is less than their normal packing. For Pampers sample packet of 2 pcs Large size costs Rs. 28 (14 /pc) and XL at Rs. 32 (16/pc), while packets of 24 pcs Large and 21 pcs XL at Rs. 399 !!?(Rs. 16.6/pc & 19/pc respectively. (For my goodness the seller gave some discount and it is only upon him, because he can sell it upto MRP) For Pediasure sure sachet of 20g costs Rs. 20 while 200g bottle costs Rs. 295 and saying Rs. 20 off on price 315 !!?? The same way Horlicks and cardburies and so many others sway in this cucumber city. more
Heavens ! We are living in "andher nagri".... They do anything they wish to.......with no one to check !! more
In deciding MRP a Committee should be formed and one of the member must be from Govt and knowledgeable in the input cost and process etc.It should be around 1.5 times the production cost. more
