Do not use after date on every product

Last year a family member of ours had severe issues from using the Soframycin ointment a few months after its expiry date. She was 80+ and dint realize medicine had expired.

My suggestion is - consumer ministry and other powers to be should require every product to have a Do not use after date and a Best before date.

The best before date in case of a food product is associated with taste and people ignore it many times and still use it. The do not use after date is more of a warning date indicating never should this product be used after that date.

Best before is misleading. If only one date is to be put, it should be called "do not use after date"

May be a poll could be done in circle on this and moved forward with mass support.

I still see poor display of best before or expiry date on medicines. Who can fine companies in this case. Consumer Dept or Pharma Dept? more
If one can ignore the expiry date clearly ascribed on the medicine containers/wrappers and other consumable items, is there any guarantee that people will follow the instructions like 'do not use after.........' ? In fact, it is our characteristic to avoid/ignore such warnings for which responsibilities lie with the individual concerned. Any change in the established system would change the situation in no way. more
Kindly check if your family member is allergic to sulphur and salycilates. Soframycin can cause severe reaction in such a case. more
I think even after expiry also some tablets can be used. Of course liquid medicines cannot be used. Please browse internet for more information. more
The date of manufacture and date of expiry are given on each medicine, package as well as product. It is a thing of common sense that the product should not be used after date of expiry. When the date of expiry is mentioned, what is use of writing "do not use after"? Best before also conveys the same thing. It is the overlooking or ignoring this information that leads to complication for which only the user is responsible. more
