Do not have a meal in bakeries

As bakeries are charging 18% gst if you have a sandwich or tea/coffee there while restaurants charge only 5% gst. more

Good to hear about the discrepencies .It would be good if the GST committee makes it mandatory to restaurants and bakery where they serve also to put a board mentioning the GST rates otherwise one should avoid those bakeries till they bring it down and post the details of the shop etc here. more

Oh boy. Can we make all these simple, please. From the above comments, I gather all goods and services are levied 18% except for food prepared food is levied @ 5%. If my interpretation is proper, then any kind of bakery item must have the 5% GST. more  
The GST must be revised to be in line with restaurants for items sold in bakeries . more  
GST Payment for Restaurants Restaurants registered under the GST composition scheme will have to pay GST at the rate of 5% of aggregate turnover, divided into 2.5% as SGST and 2.5% as CGST. Aggregate turnover will be computed on the basis of turnover on an all India basis and will include value of all taxable supplies, exempt supplies and exports made by all persons with same PAN, but excludes inward supplies under reverse charge as well as central, State/Union Territory and Integrated taxes and cess. Restaurants whose turnover is up to Rs. 100 lakhs per year are eligible to be registered under the GST composition scheme.
