Corruption in State Food Departments: Issues
1. Restaurants serve unhygienic food and bribe off the food inspector when he comes for an inspection
2. Many eateries operate without a FSSAI license only by paying a set sum per month to the food inspectors of the area
3. Bribes need to be paid in some states for getting a license from FSSAI
4. The sanitary inspector takes bribe for issuing D & O License and renewing it every year
5. The FSSAI license for others have to be inspected by the officials and the laws are such that they lead to corruption
6. The license fee has to be paid into treasury which needs a head of account details and it is not provided unless bribes are paid
7. Renewals can be made online but, again the payment has to be made in the treasury which means effectively you have to pay bribes
8. Inspections by corrupt officials creates fear among businesses and only promotes corruption
9. Without sufficient certified food labs across the country and without certifications done at reasonable costs expecting businesses to comply with them only lead to corruption
10. Manufacturing and sale of spurious, sub-standard, adulterated and expired consumables happens right under the eyes of the food inspector
System needs streamlining bringing a culture of value system with a clarity on professional ethics and conflict of interest, service orientation. Education to include this starting at school level right through to orientation at job entry and repeated at regular intervals using strong mentors. It is a great challenge of the society.

There is to be a next level of officials, who has to act and mercilessly punish the culprits and existing officials for running and allowing the business. We always talk of punishing the culprits, but leave the officials scot free so that they may continue without punishement.

Ham jee rahe hai ,yeh kya kafi nahin hai. hamare PM kahte hai ki sarkari karmchari service karen, job nahin.Parantu karmchari kahte hai ki ve sarkari kaam kar rahe hai, unhen janta ki takleef se kuchh lena dena nahin hai. They are not public servant. They are Govt employee and receive salary from Govt only. They may listen to us only when we would pay salary to them directly. The salary they get is also, in fact, given by the public, but indirectly. We suggest our central/ state Govt to paste a slip on salary packet or in the pay role that all payments to them are really given by public and if public servants fail to provide proper services to public or behave with them in a respectful manner, their salary and allowances may be reduced or withheld. This notification may bring some improvement in the attitude of Govt employees.

As food is precious and important thing in the human lives without that there is not life in this world that to safe, good quality, nutritious and free from adulteration. Those who are adulterating food and supporting them for some monitoring benefit they must think twice because they also human beings.

Food inspectors have full authorities to work in the matter at his own way. There should be a supervision authorities over the inspections and activities of food inspectors. The greedy owners of the restaurants and eatables offer bribe and free food to food inspectors. There is political protection also there. There is a chain behind food inspectors up to state level. The concerned laboratories are also paid bribe money for forgetting the samples taken by food inspectors. They Reid over some wretched food zones where public complains received often. So the suspicious activities of food inspectors should be viewed seriously. There should be hardly two years tenure for transfer for food inspectors. Then only corrupted food inspectors could be controlled.
