Last week there were reports in local news here in Tamil Nadu thag chinese ethylene has entered the matket for fruit ripening and is being used but according to experts: regular consumption of fruits ripened using ethylene powder can trigger gastritis, ulcer, neurological disorders and cancer.

Mr Shefalika Lodhasir, you mentioned "Artificially ripened fruit can be identified by their lack of a uniform colour. For example, artificially ripened mangoes will be green and yellow in patches around the surface". Is it authentic information? I am asking because a neighbour of mine has about 4 mango trees in his house garden, mostly of desi varieties. He consumes these mangoes in own house and distributes balance to relatives and neighbours. He does not use them for commercial purpose. He does not use any form of chemical to ripen the mangoes and uses hay for ripening them. I am very sure of it as I have seen it myself. But mangoes from one tree does not have very uniform colour after ripening. It shows both green and yellowish/reddish colour patches. more
Ms. Shfalika , all I wanted to know was how these fruits can be identified by a layman without any Lab facilities. Your method of identification was really helpful . more
