Cheating by a Lawyer
About a year & half back I had hired a Lawyer named Ankur for filing a notice & few other related work. I also paid 90% his fee in advance but he kept me in dark over these period by falsely giving wrong information about the action he has taken. I believed him but than he stopped responding to my calls & tried to avoid me when I requested for the proof of the actions taken by him during this period.
I would like to know from the learned members of this group what are the options available to me for teaching him a lesson so that he should dare to cheat any other client of him in future.
I was thinking of filing a written complaint with local Bar Association & with the Police.

Change.Org is a good site for such purposes to address such issues to CJI or CJs and publicise. more

Lawyers, Chartered Accountants and Doctors - these are three verticals having their own councils who have set standards of ethics to be practiced. However exceptions are there and these exceptions tend to give a bad image to the great verticals ( I respect them a lot ). The only suggestion I would give here is please do adequate research on social media or speak to 2-3 different people of that vertical you need service from before going ahead with the decision - what is stopping you - you are well read and stating that someone has put in certain clause without you knowing it is like saying someone put a clause that the house belongs to that guy in the sales deed of your house (if you are buying one ) instead of your name! Obviously it is important that you read the document before you sign it. Ask for a copy of the document to be given to you even after you have signed and go through it clause by clause and then with 48 hours revert back in writing (In case of any gaps) to the concerned person and tell him to change it - do not forget to take an receipt signature on the copy of letter - that sir is the best you can do - rgds more

Has any of the member (83 comments so far) participating in this discussion on an important issue has come across any suggestion/advise / feedback from legal fraternity/advocates? If no, then how can we expect any relief from Bar Councils or Associations? Has it been any issue hinting for filing a case with courts, you would have noticed many advises. Unconditional appology to any one feeling offended. more

@Shri Visweswarrao Ji, There is nothing wrong in writing a complaint to any kind of bar councils or commission. But the exercise is likely to be futile as we observe that even the advocates doe not show any aggression towards his/her fellow professional even if he is doing blunder. The client has to bear the brunt of such attitude with mental torture and cost. How can we expect any action by the bar councils or association against their own fraternity?. Yes if the author takes up his issue with Bar Council at least it could be an eye opener for other to realise the reality of these councils. He can take up other alternate paths in parallel so that at the end of the day, the same is not regretted for any loss of time. more
