Celebrities in misleading ads

I see many celebrities like MS Dhoni, Deepika, Priyanka in ads for products that I am sure they have never used.

Many of them advertise for builders to make easy bucks. Why is there no checking by organizations like ASCI.

Shouldnt the consumer affairs dept take a more tough stand on this. Many people get misled when a celebrity says do this or do that and they do it.

Kindly advise. more

The concept of celebrity advertising or even otherwise any Ad. is to create a demand by appealing to the customer. Whether it is a product ad. or services, they are all aimed at particular target groups. Karishma Kapoor & Shahid were endorsing Pepsi Ads when they were just child artists. So over the years due to constant research on fizzy drinks, the reports about its adverse effects are now known to the public. I do not know if a dying person was ever given a last gulp of pepsi instead of ganga water. So traditions continue to hold despite the fact that the ganga water is far too much polluted and a possible health hazard, has anyone gone to court on that issue? Recently the Central Government embarked on a major campaign to promote Ganga water which they planned to deliver at the door-step on order through usage of their network of Postal Department. If it was proven that the water was not suitable for drinking, could anybody hold the Government liable for the same? For that matter even many States have recently started campaign to showcase their states to promote tourism....however on ground the realities and facilities may not be as per expectations, so can the states too be taken to court on this? Every product has a Life Cycle...when it was introduced in the market, it was to exploit the existing demand, but new products and alternatives are always there to give competition. Even MNC's now face tough challenges from local products. Indian consumers have always been cost conscious and love deals...the deals are given through media and internet...ultimately consumer has to use the God given gift of Brain. :) more
They are giving the advertisement to attract the customers. The take hefty money, which we pay, if we believe them. more
Let celebrities do whatever. Why should "celebrities" who are MPs appear for, say, water purifiers? Are we to believe that they are talking the truth. Do we buy Kent RO or "RO ka doctor, Livpure"? Ridiculous. more
The central government have taken action to amend the Consumer Protection Act 1986 to punish celebrities who mislead poor consumers through adds. But now ,it is heard that govt is going to dilute the amendments. It is time to protest against this and demand the proposed amendments passed by the Parliament favoring Consumers. more
