Can we have Swachh Bharat with dog shit strewn all over the place

We have dog shit strewn all over our streets. You have to walk carefully to not step on it. Yet all suggestions for culling of stray dogs are considered the highest order of cruelty
Those who are against culling of dogs which is carried out in all civilised countries should answer; are they also against killing of rats. Why can we not share our living space with rats and cockroaches? Why do we spray insecticides on them? Why is it perfectly reasonable to kill rats and cockroaches but wrong to kill dogs? We want the government to exterminate all mosquitoes and make the species extinct but killing the stray dogs is cruelty. Why are dogs so precious?
A few years back cows used to be roaming freely on our streets. Hindus would feed them as part of their religious rituals. These cows were pushed out of the cities and the Hindus to whom the cow is their mother, did not protest but adjusted to the situation to make our Bharat Swachh.
However dog lovers of all religions and also non religious ones are non compromising on the matter of removal of stray dogs for creating a Swachh and Safe Bharat.
If they wish to give special status to DOGS higher than GAU MATA, horses, pigs and rats, at least they should explain why do dogs deserve a higher status over gau mata and others.
It is also advised by some that we should make friends with the dogs in our street. How about those who take long walks or jog across the colonies? How about the poor delivery boys trying to make a living by delivering food on their bicycles across many colonies? How about rag picker children who try to eke out a living by picking the trash lying on our streets? Dogs attack all of them. Any one running or cycling is at risk. Anyone walking back home from the Metro or Bus Stand late at night is at risk.
The only people not at risk are those who move around in cars and walk only in their street or nearby space.
Doctors tell our young and middle aged people to go for a jog or a walk. The poorer colonies do not have parks . People can only jog or walk on the roads. The dangerous dogs make it impractical unless you have the time and patience to make friends with every dog on every route you want to take.
Thus stray dogs are increasing diabetes and heart trouble all across India leading to tens of thousands of untimely deaths.
We allow killing of goats sheep chicken buffaloes all across India for sale of their meat. Even killing of cows is allowed for beef in some states. Why then is killing of dogs banned all across India. Why can our brothers from North East or other places who want to have dog meat denied their rights while others eat what they want.
NO one is against pet dogs. We would however appreciate if the dog owners would remove the excreta of their dogs when they take them for a walk.
I only request that we should apply the norms followed by civilised countries and not treat dogs as holy animals.
Let’s work for a Swachh and Safe Bharat more

HAHA...Don't you know the basic difference between an animal, rodent or a parasite? Rats live in sewers...so do cockroaches...The only reason sewage waste isn't too toxic is because cockroaches eat that..otherwise the sewage system must have been very acidic..Secondly, CULLING? So you would CULL THE ORPHANS TOO? Since they don't have parents or maybe were sold by their parents... Or you would just take your car out and hit every beggar at the signal with a machete and end this once n for all? Just because they don't have guardian angels or homes...you would just kill everything that romans on a street and have no address..right? more
I want to thank you and others for the support. I agree with you that we need to take this further. We need to put pressure through the press and TV channels or through our local MP, MLA, councilor etc. If any one who agrees with these views has any connection with the TV channels, other media . Your idea of starting a Face Book Page can also be implemented. WE need to get enough people behind this issue to have an impact. I there are some members from Goa they could get in touch with "People for Elimination of Strays" who have done great work in the Bombay High Court but whose case is stalled in the Supreme Court. If someone can get in touch with them or get their EMail ID we can get in touch with them and help them pursue the matter in the Supreme Court more
I agree with all you are standing upto, and m totally for some stern action that works, rather than tall talks of animal love and affection. We should first learn to be affectionate to the humans and there are a large number including our own very close parents & relatives who are in dire need for this affection than the stray dogs as the first step. What exactly can we do to get this implemented, Irvinder. We need someone like Sharma or Mr Prashant Bhushan or Mr Jethamalani crusader advocates of the supreme court and one of the TV channels to join our crusade to get the judgement reversed. Does anyone in our circle know any of them so we can talk to them and see if they will help ? more
The Delhi Metro is clean because it does not alow stray dogs. Similarly Tokyo does not allow stray dogs. Tokyo culls stray dogs. We need to tackle the problem at the source. We need to stop the mess from happening. We also need to think of the people whose job it is to clean dog shit or any kind of shit. The shit needs to stop coming into public places. We are too busy cleaning our souls and our homes. We need to care about minimising the mess coming on the streets and that requires removal of stray dogs. more
