Can children pursue a career in sports outside of cricket?
Many of you participated in the polls on olympics tracking and future of non-cricket sports. This year's Indian olympic contingent has inspired us by creating history. Below is the survey which gives us hope that India will now see more talent develop in non-cricket sports and bring pride and glory for the nation in times to come!

Every child opts for cricket as it gives life time guarentee for their livelihood. Does any other sport other than tennis give such a guarantee? So instead of cribbing and complaining about cricket, better to see that all sportsmen and women are comfortably placed even after their retirement. Many of the hockey players, football players, athletics are seen washing and doing and odd chores in various retaurants after retirement. more

Yes. India is vastly populated, next to China. When Chine is winning 88 medals, India is satisfied with 7 only. Why, are our people not capable or they are not trained or there is no infrastructure. In India the population is crazy for Cricket and all other sports takes a last bench. There is no motivation for Hockey, Football, Table tennis, Badminton, swimming, athletics, gymnastic etc etc. The way Odisha government has taken initiative for Hockey, and West Bengal is taking interest for Foot Ball, other states should encourage other sports. For example Kerala can encourage rowing, which is popular in that state, so that we can achieve more prizes. Prime Minister has openly told to give service to sports persons berth in defence service. Let us hope that the future will produce more sports persons and India will win more Olympic medals. more

For sports, other than cricket, to go ahead in our country, there has to be a sea change in the administration of sport federations with genuine interest in promotion of the sports they represent. more

Not really at present. Some possibilities in sports like Hockey, Football, Basketball and maybe one or two others. But it is basically how much interest of the POPUATION gets shifted to other games and sports. To make a career, one has to generate a demand. more

Most of the points given by Shri Mohit Pande are relevant. I Wish to add the following: 1. The officials involved should be good in the event they are training the potential materials. 2. They should not be paper qualified people but field people. 3. They should be permanently available till the final event will be over. 4. A vast nation like India can identify, select and train potential materials in Athletics, sports such as football, hockey etc. We should be sincere, devoted, dedicated and should have involvement. 5. The emoluments for the coaches, trainers and other officials should be attractive. 6. Private establishments could be given such a responsibility I am confident that such a performance will happen continuously with our sincere attempt. JAI HIND more
