Can Central Govt do something to stop elec rate hikes this year

Karnataka government has increased electricity bill by 3.84%. I hear several state governments are doing so for their own reasons. Can everyone share what they are seeing in their state and then perhaps something can be done this year so central govt can instruct states not to increase tarriffs. People are having a difficult time meeting ends and this must stop or atelast postponed to Jan 2022 more

Power generation and distribution are under state governments. Even the power being generated by the central government establishments is being purchachased the deficit states and distributed among their consumers. As such, the power tariff and other charges are decided by the state governments. As such, how the government in centre can instruct the state governments to refrain from any hike and if it is done, are the state governments bound to follow such instructions unless the central government promise for suitable compensation ? The price hike of 3.84% in Karnataka, as stated in the post, is very reasonable looking to the rate of inflation. more
Increase due to coal price, inflation and transportation costs is understandable.. But what are Discoms doing to improve efficiency, transmission losses and power thefts? more
Why state Govts. not taking lesions from Delhi Govt who is providing free or highly subsidised electricity, free bus service to all ladies etc. Is it a magic stick with Delhi Govt. that makes all that possible? more
I fully agree with Mr Sarma. But, Delhi Govt.'s magic stick is working to make people (specially poor and greedy) dance to their tune. more

People need to pay the right price for the commodity they use. Either its electricity or petrol or gas or water. There is no need to subsidize these. I do have to tell my family members several times to switch off fan when they step out of the room. Its almost round the clock on. I strongly feel electricity is still a cheap commodity. When I look around the world today there are too many gadgets which works round the clock, if there is a need or not. The amount of noise pollution due to sounds from neighbourhood due to TV, stereo system.. Its unbearable. Let there be some mercy, please keep the electricity prices high. more
My suggestion is that power supply should be privatized. New Draft Electricity Bill being circulated by central government will go a long way in giving option to consumer in selecting the power supplier of one's choice rather than being hostage of inefficient State Electricity Boards. more
