Bringing Car from Abroad

A friend of mine is relocating for good from overseas. She is considering bringing her car but unsure of the duties and how customs will react to it, demand bribes of whatever.

Can people pls share their experience with indian customs. are they as corrupt as a decade ago? more

Dear Shalini madam, its advisable not to bring that car here, as it attracts almost 100% of customs duty. for ex:- if car's original cost there is say 1lacs then importing it here will cost nearly 1lacs. so the car's value goes to 2lacs..... instead sell it there and buy a Brand New car here as now in India also you get most of the Foreign brand cars in the Market. more
Shalini ji, why your friend want to bring car from abroad when all the world class models are available in India. It is a long and tedious process to get an import license for cars and there is no question of bribery on this at all. Please tell your friend abroad, that such items like cars can not be imported into India by paying bribes to an official. If you have all the required documents and approval for import of the car, the custom duties are all specified and it will have to be paid, unless you are trying to bring car without paying duty by some means. more
Shalini, bringing car is more expensive than buying it. Customs/duties are two or more times of its value. more
