BJP wary of straight fight with AAP in Delhi- The Hindu-Nov.2,2014

The party is rather keen on exploring the possibility of forming a government

The prospect of a straight fight with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the risk of an adverse impact on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s image in the event of a setback in Delhi are making the Bharatiya Janata Party wary of facing fresh elections in the national capital, said party leaders who did not want to be named.

The party is keen on exploring the possibility of forming a government in the current Assembly unless the Supreme Court hearing on November 11 on a plea by the AAP for its dissolution forces an election, a BJP functionary said.

The BJP would ideally like to wait for the results of the by-elections in three Assembly constituencies. Polling will take place on November 25, but the results will be announced only on December 23.

The assessment of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh and the BJP is that the AAP is on a strong wicket in Delhi as Muslims, Sikhs and the poorest sections of society are united behind Arvind Kejriwal’s party.

The continuing downslide of the Congress has left these social groups with no option, which throws up the prospect of a direct contest between the AAP and the BJP. Unlike in Haryana and Maharashtra, where the BJP was the default choice of anti-Congress voters, the party has a formidable contender in the AAP in Delhi.

The BJP, however, is conscious that engineering a minority government and sustaining it would not be easy and there is a section within the party that believes that election is a better way out. more

Delhi could not submit its position properly against corruption in 2013. Congress was punished for sure. Can we say, Delhi is still alive on this matter? Will we see Delhi rising again for a cause? While AAP talks about various issues, BJP is still contesting in the name of MODI, nothing else. Is this what Democracy has become? http://www.naisadak.org/dilli-kisase-ladegi/ more
I think that the kind of enthusiasm evident in the last 2 elections (Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha) in Delhi, would be missing, and this would impact the turnout in the elections. Wether this would help the AAP or BJP needs to be seen. Also, election day management would be crucial, as was evident by the last hour voter turnout in the last Vidhan sabha election in Delhi(which helped BJP) more
Sunil Duttji, thanks for appreciating my post. I like the exposition of the 3 " C " done by Sunil Vadehraji. To restore balance in the polity I wish what Guhaji estimates turns out to be reasonable true. " TINA " is very undesirable for the political system, for the ruling party must never think that its only they who matter. In the past we have seen what harm " India is Indira " can do to a functioning democracy!? So no more political sycophancy, which is bound to happen if the ruling party juggernaut steam roles over all political opposition!? So Delhi for AAP!?? more
BJP will b defeated in Delhi election so badly by AAP that it will 4get relishing victory in Maha & Haryana in recent polls where there was no opposition. My sister's part time made at Alaknanda told, BJP distributed Truck loads of costly sweet packets on the occasion of Dipawali fest at all Govingpuri area. This was done to woe voters. But the maid said all of them collected sweet pkts, but will vote 4 AAP/AK only. Subrata Guha more
I agree with observations of Mr. S. Aggarwal. Going by the media reports, it seems that BJP has finally conceded they have failed to effect defections from Congress & AAP, despite a prolonged attempt. They have also realized that they stand exposed before the people of Delhi with regard to their attempts at horse trading. All right minded people should take up the initiative of educating others they are in touch with as to how and who they should choose, from amongst the candidates fielded by various parties. We have seen in the recent times how criminal background persons, are increasingly getting elected. We have also seen to what extent, corruption has crept into almost everywhere and it's adverse impacts. We should give due weight-age to non communal outlook of such candidates as well as parties they represent. These three Cs have harmed our nation immensely and ensured no progress for the common masses. This has to change and to achieve this, all of us have to play our role, in whatever small way we can. If we are able to drastically reduce the percentage of 'criminals', 'corrupt' and 'communal' elements amongst our elected representatives, we would have initiated a earl revolution, that will take this nation forward at a pace, we may not be able to imagine. KEY IS IN NOT WAITING FOR OTHERS TO TAKE THAT FIRST STEP AND INITIATE ACTION THAT WE DEEM FIT, IMMEDIATELY. more
