Best Before Date issues with packaged products

I wish to share the need of making some rules or standards for how packaged products should have conservative best before or expiry dates.

In most countries like USA the fmcg manufacturers if they know product will expire on Aug 31st, they will mark best before date as August 15th or august 22nd.

In India many fmcgs go to other extreme. If they know it will expire aug 31st. They will say sep 5th. At times and best case aug 31st.

As a result many products go bad though expiry date hasnt been reached.

Can LocalCircles please escalate this to fssai or bis or whosoever more

MRP inclusive of all taxes, NET WEIGHT or NET VOLUME is still mandatory as per Legal Metrology ACT 2009 but it the laxity of concerned department for violations of all ACTS prevailing in the country. No double MRP allowed but still being used by Few influential FBOs . more
FSSAI Certificatin is printed with the label. The company gets the certification on the trial samples and inspection visits. Same is true about Medicines also, with a slight change. Each batch is sent to the Drug Controller for quality test. Only after the approval the batch is released in the market. more
As long as corrupt politicians and corruption exists in the country, all violations will remain. Every consumer will be victims of inaction Only way to resist or prevent packed products without proper crystal clear display of the details, shop keepers should stop selling such products. Incase respective department fails taking action, public should stop buying packed products at all. more
new regulations for putting manufacturing date and expiry date is mandatory wef 01-01-2022 and best before date is voluntary, has already been notified. more
MRP most important. Volme and weight also. more
What about weight and MRP ? more
Indeed, this is something I have been trying to escalate. Situation is even worse. They are openly flouting norms. I put in a post on Local Circles a few days ago of a shop selling packaged edible goods in the heart of a famous South Delhi market, without putting either MRP, weight of the product, date of manufacture or expiry. But ironically they have put their fssai certification no on the packets. They flout the norms openly and it is said that fssai and GST officials are hand in glove with them. Despite my complaining to the local police station, the shop is selling goods to thousands of people. more
